Help get the fenders off!

I am working on my 62 crew and am taking off the front clip. Where is the bolt that is hard to get to? Do you have to take the door hinge off to get to it? I have all the other ones out.

there are 2 bolts on either side that are hard to get to...you have to take off the round plastic plug on the kick panel to expose the bolt..it screws into a bar lookin thing that usually is hella rusty, and when tried to turn, strips out of the fender...youll see what I mean when you get there...I had to tear off my fender, and am going to patch it before it goes back on...the other hard to reach one is in the wheel well in the front on top...its easier to pull the core support and fenders as one, then disassemble later

Thanks for the fast help! I am going out to the shed to try again......I am about ready to put all the other bolts back in and lift off the whole cab and front clip together........But I will need to take it apart sometime. I am working alone so the whole front clip at once may be too heavy and big for me.

That was easy, once you know where it is! One came out, the other one spun. I got a flat pry between the cab and fender and it came apart as I turned the bolt/nutsert. I then got out the grinder and finished the job.

Glad you got it, i was going to suggest using a flat large screw driver or pry bar as your backing the nut off, but you figured that out.. it helps TENDENTIOUSLY!

Yep.... they "spin" real often. They spun on all of the trucks I've dismantled
thus far. I take my MIG welder and tack the nuts back in place after
chasing the threads out.

Are the earlier trucks different than the later ones? I've taken apart a 70 and a 71. The only bolt that is hard to get to is the one behind the upper door hinge. Jeffz's 66 appeared to be the same way, he was removing the front clip when I was there. I never had to remove a plug or had difficulty in the wheel well. I suppose you may be able to get to the hidden one by removing a plug but I don't know if you could get the socket past the hinge doing it that way.

Mine had a rubber plug in one access hole and missing on the other side. I found all the other ones but I had a clean truck thank goodness. Some mud could have hidden some other ones!
What a parts pile I have started......and it is only just beginning...............I did cough up some money for plastic bags to keep the bolts seperated. Is that being smart or just scared?

I did the same thing. It is hard to write on the bags once they have stuff in them though. By the end I got lazy and put some stuff in bags without marking them. Hopefully I'll remember where everything goes.

I have been saving up for 8 years since I bought the truck so I sprung for the baggies that even have the white spot to write on........very fancy.

Once you hit your 40's..... don't count on remembering too much.

I never had much luck getting stuff to stay on bags, but a note in the bag will stay forever. Also you can draw a digram to show how things go together and put it in the bag.

You can pop that body plug off and take that upper fender
bolt off as it is far enough above the door hinge. Usually, the
trick is getting the bolt to spin free.

In some cases
the kept nut just comes detached from the "cup" it is affixed to.

I would either get an old polaroid or a digital camera and take pictures of how things are now before total disassembly, hell i'm 28 and can't remember stuff that well.

I just pulled the front fenders off my 68 D200 parts truck (in between snow flurries).
NO PROBLEMS........Sprayed the bolts with PB BLASTER once or twice daily for a week before trying it though.

Very good advice. I am taking them! I also have some parts trucks to look at all together yet.....
