I just did this in my 63. I got a shifter from a 65(?) camper special. I grabbed everything, dash, instrument cluster, vent knobs/cables. the only thing I DID NOT grab was the cable that went to the tranny. It was toast, which I think was why the truck was in the P A P. The whole dash cost me $30 tax and all
I already had my cab apart, so when I started to put it together, I installed the dash with the shifter instead of the original dash. It bolted right in.
I went to the junkyard yesterday, and grabbed a cable from a motorhome. It is long, but bolted on, and works great. The tranny is from a motorhome, so it was a no brainer. When I get more money, or can find a correct length cable, Im definately swapping them

Re: dash mounted automatic shifters
The 65 trans is desirable because you can use it on the push button cars, without having the ball and trunon. It's a one year deal, and they fetch pretty good money. I've thought of mounting a rachet style shifter on the dash. what do yall think?
