Wood Block Replacement Under Bed

Post by Toolsnob »

Are there any options for replacement? Some of mine are rotted or missing and I have the bed off swapping the gas tank to the rear of the truck. I am thinking of just building all the mounts up with metal so can bolt the bed directly to the frame with out the wood blocks.

Any one else come across this?

You can get 1' long boat rollers for a boat trailer and cut them Dow to what ever size you need works great for body mounts

I copied decently shaped ones even though they were rotted, the shape were OK. I used a piece of Oak from a skid. Just figure this... they lasted this long, so why use metal? Sure they are rotted now, but... in 40+ years the next guy can replace them

I'm using white oak.Scrap ends from a 4x4 stair newel post. Cut to size on a band saw.Can probably look in the scrap pile at a residential new build site or maybe a hardwood supply house will have some scrap pieces they will give you. :2cents

Somebody send me a pic set with ALL the pertinent dimensions. I'm getting ready to drop a bunch of locusts and osage orange trees. Neither one rot if cut and worked while the sap is down. I have osage fence posts here well over 100 years old that look brand new other than some surface bleaching.

I suppose I can pull a set out of my 69 D100-128, but, the bed has never been off... currently have pin oak (14-18" diameter burl log, hate to waste it on bed blocks instead of Utiline flooring), sweet gum, white oak, honey locust, black locust, elm and osage on the ground. Anybody who wants logs/boards come get them. They're in my way and about to get turned into ash piles...

Seriously, if you need raw stock for your trucks, and are willing to come pick it up, you can HAVE it. All you want, free, gratis, on the house.

Can make available: several species of elm, pecan, hickory, walnut, TN/VA cedar, 2 kinds of locust, pine, sweet gum, sasafrass, sycamore, persimmon, paw paw... 20 acres of pecan orchard has reverted to native timberland and the trash trees need to go.

I'll pop a pattern off my bed blocks, what is the bolt diameter? Goldie had sent me the info but 2 moves later I've lost the hard copy.

You are correct 7/16
Does anyone have the dimensions of the blocks of wood? I know 4 are the same size and the 2 at the front of the bed are different?

1 7/8" (W) x 2 1/2" (T) x 2 1/2" (L)

These are the dimensions I used when I made replacements out of oak for my truck.
Just drill holes and yr good to go.

I think I still might have one extra set, I sold the other ones. I will check if you're interested, let me know.
