Someone identify this for me

Was out combing the salvage yard and this thing puzzled me....it has the sweptline bed, but the front end is different, i am fairly sure the bed is original to the truck.....someone tell me what it is as i have never seen one. I do know that it was a government vehicle

The bed has the sweptline down the side of it like the 61-71 regular beds (non utiline). And i seriously considered grabbing that grille, i am heading back out that way soon and probably will grab it.....whats a grille like that worth?...its probably a new arrival for the salvage yard cuz its the first i have ever seen it

You could check with Ron Reichert over at the http://www.powerwagonadvertiser.com site for
a value estimate. Ron has restored a few of the PG Era trucks. I believe he still has two
or three "in process" for customers too. He's a good guy and might even have a buyer
for it too. Put up a post in the Power Giant Section on that site and
direct it to Ron.

Are you saying it has a Sweptline era bed on it or a bed like this? If it has a Sweptline era bed it isn't original.



The grille has probably got to be worth less than this, cause this has been for sale for a long time.

It has a sweptline bed.....same color and fade pattern and everything, but i guess it could have all been repainted after a wreck or something way back when, thats what was throwing me off on it

Ron was having problems regestering on this site, but here is his comments:

The truck is a 1960 D 200 Sweptline. They came out in 59 and carried over in 60. To my knowledge these are the only two years for that bed. They are scarce but are usually like the one shown, RUSTY. The grill is aluminum and was used on the Townwagons through 66 but without that center badge. It can be unbolted for a TW. Value??? $50 - 125. I've got two of these grills hanging in my shop.

Just to be clear here... The 59/60 sweptline bed is NOT the same as the 61-71 bed! In 59/60, the "sweptline" is straight, from front to back. The "sweptline era" sweptline is not really a line, but a curve, and has the distinctive drop and curve near the back that we all worship.
So which did it have one it?

It was the curve we all worship. That's what was throwing me off cuz its a sweptline (61-71) bed but not technically a sweptline rest of the truck. Since it was a government vehicle I guess it could have been wrecked and repainted cuz the colors and fading we consistent. And they probably just put a newer bed on it. Still pretty neat though, I had never seen a power giant before, too bad its too far gone to save

I meant that the truck at the salvage yard had the bed painted the same as the truck it was attatched to and was faded the same as the rest of the truck. Was not trying to imply that the bed was the same as the picture in the preceeding post above mine

Its got a hemi! What size is that hemi I can't remember all the size of em they made back then...331? No wait I believe the first one in a dodge truck was a 315

The Dodge hemi's were the "baby" hemi, and they share nothing with the Chrysler hemi...Chrysler offered a 331 cu in starting in '51, a 354 came along around '53 or '54 and the 392 came along around '56 or '57...the Chrysler hemi was discontinued in '59 in passenger cars but was continued to be produced for heavy equipment and industrial applications for many years after...the Dodge and Desoto hemis of varying sizes were all independant of each other and both were considerably smaller externally than the Chrysler...

FYI, every Chrysler hemi is stamped with the engine size on a pad above the water pump and in front of the intake...and IND means it was an industrial motor, many of which came with hollow sodium filled valves to dissipate heat from continuos running, along with a camshaft intended to peak at a much lower rpm...

i had a 1955 270ci (269.6)

you dont see very many with 4bbl carbs though.
