Oh trust me. I didn't get a Sweppy this time, but for my daily driver I have a 79 Ford F-250 Ranger. :) I'm also thinking about getting the money saved up to buy my mom an old sports car. We need some project cars to work on.

At any rate, the Ford is reliable, and will work with what I need. It's got a 460 V8 and 4 barrel Holly Carb. She's a go getter. :)

I'm still really upset about my Dodge though... :pale

Sorry for your loss. It sure looked better to me than the way you describe it. I would have loved to get my hands on those wheels and tires!

Couldn't get the tires off. No one would tow it for us, so we dragged it down to the scrap yard. It was sad to see it slide down the hill at a 45 degree angle... While it was moving, it nearly fell apart. :pale

PC,

Sorry to hear that the truck is scrapped, that really sucks. For the 2 grand though you should be able to find another one. Keep your eyes open and your head up...

Spending the two grand on what we were shorted without my truck... It was after all, the work horse of our family.

Either way, I'll get another one. I'm looking for a project car now... something to learn on.

those old F-series trucks are pretty hardy..a buddy has an F350 with the 390, and if that truck could talk, we'd be in jail hahahah

but that 460 is a different animal all together lol...put a new timing set on it, if you havent already..IIRC after 72, the crank is retarded 6 or so degrees for smog reasons, so the DOT that you line up with the one on the cam is retarded (left of the keyway)...less power...find a set where the DOT is lined up with the keyway, and you'll FEEL the difference...helped in my lincoln with the 429 ( came with the 460..429 is essentally the same as 460, but different bore/stroke)

well lets hope that just cause you dont have a swepty right now that youll quit hanging out. dont be a stranger just cause you dont have a truck. if you plan on getting another one stay around, follow some posts, ask some questions. by the time you get another one youll be much better educated on what to look for how to fix it, and who knows, maybe that sweet deal will land in your lap when you least expect it. we need more then just a bunch of old bald white guys around here....lol :dance :clap

Speak for yourself.

I agree with your advice though. I wish I would have been here before my first Sweptline although I wouldn't have bought that one.

im with you, had i found this place first, i would not have bought my first truck, i definatly would have done a better job in purchasing a truck worthy of the work.

how disappointing, that truck was still in pretty good shape and would have made a great donor for a straight frame...even the damage to the bed was minimal compared to what I have seen other people fix. all those great parts smashed into a Toyota or a microwave...

Dman, The frame was bent. And crunched. If you looked under it, there was a break in 2 of the welds. Sorry I didn't get pictures of it. The scrapper asked if they could reuse the body, and I told them if they thought it was salvageable. They took a look at it and said it was more to fix than the truck could ever be worth. The cab was crunched on the driver side, and the door was jammed in there. They had to literally cut the door to take it off.

And we tried taking parts off it. There was nothing good on it, trust me. I took what I could off of it, and sent her away. I had to also get rid of it because the city was going to write me a citation for it. So with what I had, I made the best decision I could on the fly.

It really sucks, but that's what happened.

wideblock, you bet I'll stick around. I'm still looking to go to tradeschool for auto body and detailing, and mechanics. My hobby will to be restoring older cars, while I fix the newer ones for a job. Pretty nifty, huh? Lol

Nah, but I've got some questions slowly being answered. Fixing my Ford has been a real challenge...

Yes, I'm planning on fixing everything I can on her. I want her to jump over the stop sign when I romp on her. The thing that's wrong with it now, it it's out of time, or one of the... pistons? aren't firing... It sounds off. So when I get her into the dealer, I'll have them check it out. I have no idea about doing that, and I'm probably going to ask about watching how they do it. :3

makes sense, I guess, but if saw the kind of rust I have to deal with you would welcome a few bends.

Perhaps. But its not just a few bends. You'd never get the bed to align... And the cab was crushed.

My 64 dodge truck was rear ended by some drunk ten years ago.I had to put the bed of a 1960 ford truck on it,could not find an old dodge bed and newer beds looked bad on the old truck. The two front fenders came from a 1967 two ton truck. The front bumper from a 1975 dodge truck and made to fit,Bumper guards from a 62 Rambler,16" wheels from a 1998 ford crown Victoria, It can be done with patience -a labor of love.Find another truck and make one good one from the two.I put a lot of reflectors in inconspiciuous places on my truck so when headlights hit it,it shines like a christmas ornament.Hopefully they won't ever hit it again.I park in the drive way mostly now.Especially on Friday and Saturday nights. :2cents

I moved, so I don't have to worry about that again. And I've got a 79 F-250 Ranger. So I'm all set on a fixer upper, if I can get it from my father. -.-" otherwise, I've got another Ford sitting in my driveway now, that I could fix up. Just need the money to do it is all.

Wow, great thread. Back when I was doing theater I'd work at a friend's shop in San Francisco during the summers. There were three women mechanics, and they were the best. You are clearly very bright and articulate! Sorry to read about your truck, but I sense that you have a great future.

Well thank you. :)

And not to worry. I found a 69-71 sweppy just down the road. It looks parted, so I'll see about getting it sometime to fix up? Might be a while though... And I can't tell the exact year cause it's partially hidden, and well... Parted. Pretty red color though. ^_^

Welcome and best of luck to you!!

My ex-wife was driving down the road when someone backed out right in front of her and did extensive damage to the front of our car. Well, the other person's insurance was just going to total out our car and pay us some low-ball amount. I went through the newspapers and collected several adds for similar cars with outrageous prices and presented them to the insurance company and told them if they were going to total out the car, they could just replace it with one of those from the ads. Well, what do you know, they changed their mind, and fixed the old car up! Hope your negotiations go at least as well!!
