I've bought almost everything to refurb my doors, but when I got them apart tonight I found a badly deteriorated rubber strip across the bottom of the window. Seems that it seals the bottom of the window when the window is all the way up? Not the cat whiskers, this is a rubber strip embedded in the bottom edge of the glass. I've searched all the suppliers I can think of and no one mentions a replacement for this strip. Anyone replaced this and where did you get them?

Are you talking about the rubber that holds the glass in the regulator channel? If so, I pitched it and used 100% silicone to hold glass in the channel.

All it does is hold the glass like Chris mentioned. You should be able to get it at any auto glass shop.

Weird, I'll take a picture of mine but it overhangs one side of the channel by 1/2"-3/4" on both windows. Only reason I was asking about the rubber is it's all hard and cracked and I figured it was a seal, but maybe someone was just sloppy when they were putting them in the last time. While I've got the windows out should I remove the channels and re-bond them?

Wish I'd have seen this sooner. I just ordered the vent window rubbers from Steel (and about choked on the price). I'll see if there's a glass place in town that can rebond them for me. Maybe I'll clean and paint the frames while they're apart.

That rubber probably catches under the opposing lips turned down from the edge of the opening. It would reduce snow accumulation inside the door and grab water to channel it to the ends and keep it out of the steel channel holding the glass (the "regulator").

I have seen that too. thanks for the links. I think most the time its fallen off and people dont realize it was there in the first place. I think only one truck of many still had some left

Have that same situation on one of the trucks I am working on. Spent quite a bit of time in online research/using "contact us" at various suppliers and have found no one that makes that style. Post the source if you get lucky.

Oh that's a bummer...I'm looking for the same rubber part.

FYI, it's more than just a way for the glass to fit in the frame, it also sticks out on one side. See pic below. Anyone have any replacement ideas?

I called around Steele and Roberts with no luck but R's said that the Chrysler number for that part was 1561415

I've looked high and low for the window regulator (aka: Channel Seal) seal that also has a lip like it was from the factory. I even looked through lots of home window seals but have only found one possible solution. It's a window channel seal from a classic ford parts dealer called Bob Drake.

Now the question to the experts...was this window channel seal always just friction fitted? I don't see any evidence from my old seal that there was ever channel tape used. Channel tape was used on many classics cars, it expands shortly after installation and works as both a seal and an adhesive to keep the window tight in the regulator.

There is no adhesive. It's just friction that holds it in place.

Was said flap onthe outside? Just guessing, but I have half a hunch that the rubber piece that holds the glass in the channel starts life as a flat strip of sheet rubber and takes that bent shape over time when pressed up againt the mating lip seal on outside of the glass. There are two such seals (one inside and one out) clipped to the downward steel edges of the door. Said flap may even have folded over when the window is all the way up thus making a hokey seal against intruding water. Wouldn't want very much water there as ice might then lock the window in place.

Just a thought.

More likely intended to keep debris out (leaves, etc) rather than water.
The 2 drain holes in the bottom of the door are for the water, but they get plugged up with dirt and "mulch".

I think it's meant to do both, keep some water out and some debris. On my drivers side window that lip was mostly gone and the bottom of the door was pretty rusty where, on the passenger side the seal was good and so was the bottom of the passenger door.

I would use a sheet of rubber gasket material. Maybe an old tire tube would work? I bet a bike shop would give you old ones for free.
