steering colum floor plate leaking

Post by 15austin »

The steering colum floor plate leaks water on to the floor. Is there a seal or gasket I can use? Or a bead of silicone seal it up? Thanks for your help.

I've been making my own using 1" x 1/8" black foam weatherstrip from NAPA. Home depot also sells it. It's a roll that has a peel off white paper strip and is sticky on one side. I also used it to make a seal for the floor board to tranny cover. Worked great for me.

I made mine from a sheet of 3/8" thick, closed cell, white foam I got from Soff Seal.
They make these gaskets for Mopar cars, but not trucks. So they sent me a piece of
the stuff they make their car steering column gaskets out of.

If you aren't that adventurous, then it should be pretty easy to rig something
with adhesive backed weather strip from the hardware store. Ideally something
closed cell, so it will not wick water. Then run it around the outer edge of the plate
and the floor opening. This will offer a double seal, and help keep junk from collecting
behind the plate.
