Fire engine red PAINT CODE

I did some research to find the actual paint code for what everyone calls "fire engine red" and also the white. The white is color number 17875 and the red is color number 11136 of Federal Standard 595. They're defined by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). So now ya know, just in case you wanted to paint your truck or rims in that color. :dance

Now as for getting the paint, you are on your own.

The following is from a 1969 Dodge Truck Master Parts Book. All of the numbers are Ditzler. White is called Dodge Truck White or Sand Dune White. Both have the same Ditzler code 8358. Three reds are listed. Dodge Truck Red, 70458, Torreador Red, 70773 and beginning in 67, Corporate Red 71417. A "full service" paint supply house can still mix these colors My local supplier, Jerrys Paint & Supply, Sacramento, Ca. just mixed 8358 for me last week The Federal numbers you have probably reference trucks intended for use in fire or other emergency services rather than general
production. Hope this helps. Mike

I was referring to aftermarket use, not original paint specs for Dodge. Those paint codes are useful for those going original though, so that was good for you to post that for future reference. I heard a few guys talking about "fire engine red" and wanting to use it for their hot rod, but didn't know what code to use for it. So I looked it up and thought I would share with everyone here also. It's the paint code that is mandatory for use on fire fighting apparatus, to include fire trucks; P-18, P-19, P-26, etc. I want to paint my rims this color and put some thick bias whitewall tires and baby moons on them. :Thumbsup

Excellent! That may be an older paint code that was used. This is turning out to be a great thread.

My neighbor (Body shop owner) checked with PPG, and the Code they have for the old Dupont Red #9365296H is PPG #74047.

I found that:
The City of Dover (NH) in April 20, 2009 Specified: PPG "Delfleet" Paint System Red #FBC 74047
The General Safety Equipment, Inc. of Wyoming (MN) Specified to Rosenbauer America: PPG FBCH 74047 ALT Red
