Since the economy sucks so bad, the paint shop I dealt with closed all but 2 locations and after seeing piss poor customer service at one location I've started looking at others.
Sherman Williams has expressed interest in my bussiness, I know Brain Deeds used Sherman Williams paint (he also worked for them) any other truck owners with experiance with Sherman Williams?

I recommend it. It's what's on my truck and if I ever restore anothe vehicle I'll use it on that one too. Use their entire system of paint, reducer, and hardner. It works really good. I've painted several trucks over the years but SW paint was the easiest I've used to work with.

I went to school at Lincoln Tech in Indy, and one of my teachers said he thought for the money that Sherwin Williams was the best paint you could buy. I've never used it, so I couldn't tell you from a personal standpoint.

ive heard good things about velspar. We used duplicolor on the 71. It needs to be painted again, and its only been 5 years.......

No idea what the Sherwin Williams costs, but PPG Delfleet is pretty cost effective.

I used this on my crew, mostly because the shop I was at used PPG. The owner mentioned
once that he didn't use other brands for several reasons, but one was that if a customer
came in and he said it would cost $8000 to paint there car, which is mostly labor, they
tended to freak when they heard Sherwin Williams was being used. All they could picture
was house paint. It was all a mater of preconceived notions. For a shop it is one thing,
but for an individual not such an issue.

Likewise, I have heard decent things about SW paint, but never knew anyone first hand
that had used it.

I forgot to mention in my first post, but if you don't already have one, get yourself a decent HVLP paint gun. I use a DeVilbliss Finishline gun and it really works nicely. My gun is one of the lower line DeVilbliss's but is all a hobbyist needs.

I have had paint guns for some time now, I painted the truck already, but will be shortening it to a SWB and some body mods, and some surprises that I don't want to mention, so no one beats me to the punch, the first paint was Dupont and it did fine but I have 2 trucks to paint in the springtime, if not more

in my experience the better paints(i.e.-more expensive)are more forgiving to mistakes such as prep,gun p.s.i.etc.
I've used everything from velspar to ppg and you just have to be more carefull with the cheaper stuff!!!

So basically the brands aren't really too much different. nfury8 PPG I know is good, but I tend to go with the best price on this, plus as you know if everyone else uses it, I'll look for something else, but I also like good customer service, and Sherman Williams seems to want my bussiness

Out of curiosity, what does the Sherwin Williams system cost?
Primers, sealers, paint, reducer, clear, hardner, and such?
All these parts can really add up, many times people just look at the
price of the gallon of color and don't calculate all the other pieces.

Robin, I used PPG on the inside of the truck with good results. Didn't check prices VS SW.
Once you finish painting you could give us amateurs some lessons!

I have used PPG and PPGs world paint "Omni System". The more expensive paint is better, no doubt. BUT, it costs so much more it had darn well better be nicer. I find that the Omni System finishes are very nice for the money. They are at the ppg dealer and will save you 50%.

didn't even price the full pakage for I'll still shop for price even down to the primer. I did almost finish the sanding of the "new core support" chargerandpowerwagon I can for see the Radiator support, fenders and maybe hood be primered by the following Saturday, then off with the cab and bed strip the frame and paint 13 yr old Daughter is going to do the spraying of primer and we'll see about the paint

Make sure you stick to a "system" of compatible products.
Mixing brands of primers, sealers, paints and clears can have unexpected,
to catastrophic effects. As can skipping a step.
