I know a guy that did something like that but I don't have much information. He used to post on Norm's site(SteveG). He did it to repair using the same style as he already had, so I don't know if it would be a difficult to swap to the later ones.

I tried cutting the ones off the parts truck I had using a Sawzall but I gave up because it was very difficult to cut through. You might have better luck with a torch.

I just finished restoring my bed last month. I can tell you that you cannot remove the bedcaps without removing the entire side of the bed. There's just no way around it without destroying more metal than you'd ever want to. My best suggestion to you is that you sell your bed to someone who needs it and buy the year/style that you want. I don't have any photos of my bed with me right now but if you'd like to see some of the work let me know and I'll post them for you. They are quite detailed.

Did you remove the entire bed side? If so, how difficult was it?

I would be very interested in your detailed pictures as I have to restore my 70 bed and need as much help as I can get. If you could post them here that would be great.

You might try to find a box that has agood back section and plasma cut off the back part. I was going to do this on a '70 got the part but sold the truck befor I got it welded into place. Now I have the rear section sitting out back. Yours if you want for $200 plus shiping. :thinking
