Subtle Body Differences

Post by ArtfulDodger »

I would like to know why there is a difference in the body panel that fits just above the front bumper and below the grill.
My truck has a solid panel, but I see pics of trucks that have a rectangular hole in the panel each side of center.
Some crews have no holes, and some do. I have a pic of two camper specials. One is 4WD without holes, and the other appears to be 2WD with holes. I see the bigger trucks have 4 holes and even 6. I'm not asking about them, just the regular size cab.
Thanks

The 2 holes in the front core support are used with
the A/C option for extra cooling. It has been noted
previously that they may show up on non-A/C trucks.
Also, I own a '71 383 A/C truck that doesn't have
this option. This may partially answer your question.

It's also only been proven that the holes are on 71's. Although some have claimed to have seen them on 70's.

The Dodge Parts Catalog shows the radiator support with the holes for '69-'71. I used to have that catalog page on my computer until the machine crashed. Somewhere on Norm's site, there is a '69 with one, as well.

The catalog shows the application as "383 w/air conditioning". Yes, there are a couple of 318 trucks running around with that same rad support, too, but the specified application was 383 w/air.

We had this little discussion a few months ago. Somewhere, someone will post a linky to that, I'm sure.

My old '71 383 truck, w/air...

It has been proven several times that they were available on 69-71 trucks.
66patrick wrote:The application in the parts book mentions only 383 w/air. Says nothing about tranny. Look at the bottom of the top section, where is say "SUPPORT, Grille Panel". It is explicit in mentioning the 383 w/air application for 1969 and 1970-71. The part numbers are different for the ventilated valence (support) for '69 and '70-'71, but the part is the same. Notice, it is for a truck with integral (factory-installed) air conditioning, not dealer-installed air!

holes

Post by MountainMoparRobin »

Originally those holes were thought to be the mark of big block trucks, then it was found that was a towing package, because not only a/c trucks had the holes
