Paint code/color..con fus ed !

Post by gearjammer »

So in my investigating..There is no paint =code to be actually found on a 1971 dodge Truck? No tag or decal...no code written on the firewall...correct?

When I look thru paint chips..NOTHING looks right to me [see picture] ... Someplace I found reference to a
Dodge F3: (Medium Green Poly) which looks completely different to me from a Chrysler F3: (Amber Sherwood Poly), which is the closest I've ever seen, actually looks like the truck, kinda. ...<P>I've seen other 71's my color and my truck has original paint. [where it's not original rust]

So is F3 always F3? I want to blow in a couple spots [no laughing] and would like to be at least close on the color...

69-71 Sweptline Greens with the OLD Ditzler Paint codes. Your Paint shop can cross reference them....

Bright Green, introduced 2/2/70 code 2224

Light Green Metallic code 2222 or 43807

Lime Green, introduced spring 1970 code 2217 or 23039

Medium Green code 2223 or 43913

Pine Green code 2220 or 41256

Hope that helps you sort it out.

Take your truck to a paint supplier who has a color reader.
They can scan a section of the interior that isn't faded.

Actually you only need to take them the glove box door. The backside is pretty much guaranteed to be factory color. Since the 69-71 is top hinged it never sees UV light. If your jobber doesn't have a color reader or won't cross reference the old codes (PPG has them), find another paint supplier. I've gotten spot on perfect British Racing Green by having them scan coffee mugs, 20 years ago.

Gearjammer-
I have two green D-100's - one is the color of yours and the other one in my avatar is a lighter green and looks maybe metallic with a darker green "hat". I would like to go back to the lighter / metallic green but have not found any colors on the chart that looks exactly like it. Also, my dash is a darker green than the inside of the cab..... Still have a ways to go before I get to the point of paint so I keep reading and researching til the time comes ... :study

The dash on this sucker is black, not truck color..The paint is shot...beyond shot...door jamb is the best spot but IF I scan it, I don't want to scan it there...as It's NOT faded...I just want to 'blow in' a couple spots on the floors and rockers ...
