1970 Orange paint "code"
So we're about to paint the cab of my cousins Orange Dude and are wondering if it is Hemi Orange or Vitamin C.
It is sort of faded into looking like Vitamin. Just wondering what everyones experience is with seeing 70/71 Orange trucks.
We haven't found the build sheet yet.
I also will start a build thread once i have some good pictures of it.

It is called Medium Burnt Orange. I don't know if that is the same as either of the colors you mentioned or if it is a completely different color. I would find a non-faded part of the truck and color match if you are looking to keep it original.

Ditzler code 2226. Burnt Orange, introduced 2/2/70. Didn't PPG absorb Ditzler a zillion years ago? Any good body/paint supplier can match it off that code.

Omaha Orange was supposedly dropped in 66... Ditzler 60242.
The "psychedelic" colors do have some pretty wide variants. I've seen at least 5 different Plum Crazys... 3 different chartreuse, 4 Panther Pinks... on unrestored cars.
Pull the glove box door off and take it to the paint shop. Have the computer scan it's back side and mix a sample dot, which is usually about 1/2 teaspoon or so. If your paint jobber doesn't have the scanner, find another jobber. That machine has been around (and accurate) since at least the early 1990s.

Color names might not mean much. As pointed out there were variations. This is what the brochure lists for 1970 but I'm sure you could order a non-standard color. The Medium Burnt Orange I mentioned before was on the 71 Dude brochure.

You know, i tried to read that from the Dude site but it was a little blurry. As for the glove box, it is black so we may have to cut out a piece of the cab....

Your color might be
Toreador Red - PPG 2227
whick I think is the same as Hemi Orange.
In 1970-71 Plymouth called the color...Tor-Red Met
Dodge called it Hemi Orange

Forgot about the Dodge Toreador "Red". The Ford color of the same name actually was red.
I've got to get some replacement chip books, mine are mostly House of Kolor. I wouldn't spray that crap again for love or money.

Hey Wally,
Have you checked this site out?

Looks like there were 3 different "reds".
