Built an early tailgate from scratch

I have a ‘61 Fargo that I’ve been building. Some of you may have seen my post about making the long box into a short box. Anyways, the tailgate was pretty rough and basically un-fixable. I haven’t been able to find a better one - at least for a reasonable price. I have a metal fabrication shop, so I decided to build my own - out of aluminum.

Let me guess: you built it that way because you just had to vent.

Beautiful work!!! I was noticing the attachment points on your quarters for the hardware to support the tailgate chains. I have the same on my 61'. I was told that this was not original. Do you have any reason to believe the hardware set up for the tailgate chains is not original on your truck? I believe it is original. I was told the set up you and I have was the result of the original welded tab breaking off from inside the quarter and this was the fix. It seams like a lot of work to do body work and then drill but maybe.

Thanks! It’s original, as far as I know. I’ve seen a few early sweptlines around here and none had welded tabs.
