My crown vic D100 swap and Colorado cruise pics

Thought I'd liven things up a bit here and show one of my trucks off. I know some of you may not approve but oh well. Truck has been driving for roughly a month now and I've already put 3k miles on it. Made the trip up to Colorado for the sweptline cruise the weekend of the 21st. Also went all the way up to the summit of pikes peak. Very cool experience. It was a little over 1500 mile round trip. She performed flawlessly. The whole truck is sitting on a 2011 crown vic police interceptor chassis with the drivetrain. Not my first choice of drivetrain, but it'll do until I can save up for a modern hemi. It was nice to be able to cruise highway speeds and have heat/ac. Anyway, enjoy the pics.

Great pictures!

Did you do the swap? I like the sound of a modern chassis, etc - how does it look inside and under the hood? :salut

I had a friend do the swap. He did one to his truck as well. Under the hood it's packed in there pretty tight with all of the accessories. I'm still working on tucking wires and getting ac stuff figured out on the inside. Using the crown vic cluster just sitting inside our dash. My friends is a little further along. I'll see if I can get some pics of his. Uses the crown vic steering column and pedals. Little on the ugly side but super functional. The 2 biggest downsides to this swap so far are the loss of bed space and the loss of the hood hinges. You lose the bed space because of the crown vic's irs and gas tank. And you lose the passenger side hinge if you want to use the vic ac stuff. I'll eventually have a flip forward hood done to remedy the hinge situation.

I forgot all about the Colorado cruise and don't think it was mentioned on this site. I don't see Robin's truck and I know he usually organizes this get-together.

Every frame swap seems to create issues with the bed fitting properly, unless you move the floor or raise the whole truck body.

Both of Robin's trucks were under the knife this year. He was driving one of the 2 very nice 1970 D100s in the center of the arc with a friend of his.

And yes you are correct. Most anything that's going to have irs you will have to sacrifice bed space for. You could do Dakota, S10, or an Explorer but you'll still have leaf springs out back. The new chargers have a flat irs but they're a unibody car so a full frame swap is a daunting task. There's a guy on Facebook doing a crown vic front clip and fabbing in a charger irs so that he can retain all his bed space. Pretty interesting build.

My buddy did most of the swapping so I don't have that many of the process but I'll post what I have.

I wasn't even referring to IRS, just frame swaps in general. The Dakota and 72-93 full size trucks also interfere with the bed. The S10 and Explorer are probably too small. The later Explorers do have IRS though and may be large enough. I have no plans for IRS at this time.
