Poll: Help me choose tire style

Ok, don't laugh, but this is my lame MS Paint attempt at getting a look of all 3.

You get the idea, it's not meant to be perfect:

With the look, and especially the ride height of your truck, I choose option 1. Maybe with different paint and/or lowered I would go with option 2 or 3.

Option 1 first, 2's ok too......I don't think white walls would suit the era or look of your truck

BTW - the 1st 2 options would give me a choice of higher quality tires. I'd go to BJ's and grab BFG's or Michelins with a $50-$70 off coupon for 4.

I'm generally not a fan of RWL, I would only put them on a period style muscle car. I do like white walls, but they don't look right on your truck. I'd stick with the black wall myself.

Both 1 and 2 look pretty good. 2 with trim rings might look good too.

I was going to say, if you don't like all the black with the blackwalls, maybe add some trim rings.

Are white wheels with blackwall tires an option? After looking through your other thread on whitewalls, i think that I am going to do whitewalls on my truck. I was also thinking 235/75/15 on mine. Cooper makes a good period correct tire with an older style tread pattern instead of the newer directional tread.

Black wall, and having had LT235/75R15 on all 4 corners as long as I have owned the truck... step up to a 31x10.5, minimum. 235x15s are tiny in our wheel wells. My next set is the 31x10.5s front, 33x12.5s rear. Just have to find Wideblock's old thread with the correct wheel info (sometime in 2004 or 2005, can't find it now), verified by Cowboy who owned Trey's old truck with those sizes on it. At least wheels are easy to find for the 1/2 tons...

If you run an 8 lug rim, minimum tire size of LT235/85R16, and it still looks small.

Thanks all!! Bill, I appreciate you taking it easy on my Circle drawing skills. You have no idea how long it took to figure out where to click and start that dang circle!!!

After staring at this handsome presentation, I am leaning toward blackwall myself.

Regarding whitewalls, I could only find Hancook, Cooper Trendsetter, a Goodyear here and there (which I will not run) and Toyo in 235/75R15

I would love to go larger, but I can't budget for wheels also so I will have to stick with my stock 15's.

I agree that the whitewalls make them look even smaller which sucks. I plan on playing with taking a spacer block out of my leafs in the front when I do the suspension. This would only bring it down an inch or less but everything helps.

as sedate as your truck looks the white walls would be nice.

i have Kelly tires on mine in 235/70/15.

so far that look nicer than a 75 and fit my 7" police wheels nicely.

Ben, does 70 make the narrower i think? I wish there were taller than 235 15's!

BTW, Hewy inspires me with his blackwalls......

technically the "235" is the width in millimeters, "70" is a percentage of the width for the sidewall height, and the "15" is the rim diameter.

i like a 70 or a 60 series tire since they tend to be wider along the tread width for the same given tread width designation. the same tire in a 75 is taller but does not spread out on a wide rim. when i first got the truck from my folks it had 255 60 15s on it. it filled the wheel wells nicely but was fairly wide on a 7" rim.

i like the 325/70/15 look on my truck...

I would like to put 31 x 10.5's on my truck, but the stock big hubcap wheels are only 5 1/2" wide. The 16's that I have are only 4 1/2" wide. I had Cooper Trendsetters on my old Valiant...really liked them.

I've always likes RWL. Mine and Mikes Truck for help.
Mikes First: LT265/75/17 on a 9" wide wheel.
My summer Wheels & Tires: LT33x12.5x16.5 on 9.75 wide wheel.
My winter wheels & Tires. LT 235/75/16 on a Dodge 7" wide wheel.
Or you could just go with the snow look!

remember there are two style white letters also. The White out line like on Mikes Goodyears, or solid like on both my BFG sets.. Usually a manufacture specific thing i think.

This will either help or really confuse!

the sidewall choice has a lot to do with the attitude you want to project.
with the chrome and look of your truck. i would lean to the whitewalls.
:2cents
Good luck with the decision.

I like the blackwall with the small hub cap. I think the w/w works with the full hubcap as on Ben's truck. I like the RWL on raised trucks,4x4''s and performance vehicles. :2cents :salut

Chris, I believe that I've decided just that.

Blackwall

I just need to change up from what I have, and with the little miles that my truck sees I could be these will be on there for many years. I think I would regret white walls in the end.

I went to the Rodders Journal Hot Rod show last year and got psyched on white walls and toyed with the idea of flaking my roof but I just love the bone stock, bare look to much...... I think I'll try to find some time to repaint my side trim inserts.

You could always get whitewalls or white letter and turn them the other direction if you don't like them.
