Got a new sweptline today, saved it from being sent to the scrap yard. For details of how I got it, read my post from yesterday in another section viewtopic.php?f=31&t=28244&p=202525#p202525
Turns out It was the sellers Grandfathers truck. He bought it new ! He just passed away last year, and the tag has an 08 sticker. After all the talking to the girl on the phone, I arrive to look at the truck, get out to meet them and from across the yard she yells " I KNOW YOU" ! She works for my Sister, her Dad is a group leader at the same plant I work at, and her boyfriend also works there. Small world. Here she is.
front view, bumper is useless. fender dented but not creased. grill has 1 bad end, possibly repairable

While I was sending pics from my phone, I figured I'd send this one showing that This past weekend I got my shop cleaned out so that I could get the Barracuda inside to start getting her back into shape. Looking rough....Mother Nature's a *#%^$ !
Thanks guys. When I get it brought home, I'll take lots of pics and be able to better assess the condition. They said their Grandpa bought it new. So it's a local one owner truck. The seat had just been recovered before he stopped driving it. It's a slant six. He said that they had it checked out at a shop, and they told them that it had dropped 3 cylinders ( I'm assuming he meant dropped compression). The odometer shows 48K. Surely 148K.
The Barracuda, I've had since 1981. last time I ran it at the track was in 2001. It did 7.30's in the 1/8th, naturally. It has a N2O system on it, but I never got to time it, because the only time I ever used it at the track, I was leaving on the bottle and found my weak links ! Broke the rear straps at the Ujoint( actually, it popped the heads off the bolts ), twisted one axle. Have since replaced axles with mosers, and put some moroso aluminum block type hold downs to replace the straps.
Wow, ya know what ? That's a good idea. Wouldn't it be awesome if I got that old "leaning tower of power" running again ? I can't wait to get her here so I can clean her up and see what I've got.
Once I had a 70 Duster with a Slant 6 that had 2 dead cylinders..no compression....I pulled the valve cover and saw 2 bent pushrods...the problem was stuck valves.....I used Marvel Mystery oil which is pretty thin...I poured Marvel around the 2 valve springs with the piston all the way down..I then pounded the valve all the way down with a plastic hammer. Then I used a pair of vise grips clamped onto the retainer with a small chain running through the vise grips...I used a fairly big hammer and hit the looped chain like you'd use a dent puller ...and that pulled the valve back up.....I repeated this procedure several times and the valve stem unstuck itself. Ran like a top afterward. It had just sat too long with bad gas..valvestems just needed some oil and some working . I even bent the 2 pushrods back into place with a vise. Had to clean the varnish out of the gas tank......Mopar backwooded cheapness at its best ! Gave the car to my brother and he run it for years afterward.....
THAT is a very encouraging story !
Also, today I bought a new pressure washer. My little electric tote around motel was becoming erratic. I found a 2600psi/2.3 gph model with brass pump and Honda engine at Sam's Club. I went to buy it today, but they only had the display model. Was originally $300, got the demo for $250
Getting truck home sunday or monday, when it and the cuda will get a bath. The Trucks gonna get a brand new tarp so the neighbors wont be repulsed. I need to move to a more rural county !
Mopar dwh, I'm not sure yet. If it's in pretty good shape, I might go ahead and get it straight and running, if not I'll sell it or part it out. If I use it for parts, I'm thinking the mirrors, tailgate, hood and doors are worth more than I paid for it.
Moparidge, thanks, I already saw your's in another post. Nice set of vehicles ! Could be a photo right out of the early 70's.
If I decide to sell it, is anybody interested before I start blowing money on it ?
Thanks..yeah ..after I posted I thought to myself that I had already posted on one of your post about cudas....What you can barely see in the photo is the 68 Charger whichs sits beside the Barracuda in the garage...I've been working on it lately....It was a 383 4bbl. car but I just dropped a tweaked 440 Magnum down on the K-frame....Bowl ported heads,5 angle valve job, 284 St.hemi cam..street dominator intake ,holley 750,1 7/8 hookers, 2800 convertor...a/c ,power steering ,manual disc....Thats gonna be my take a trip to Austin luxury family car....
It looks like (quickie inspection) they had put a new belt, plugwired cap, points , etc on it. Then they found the dropped cylinder issue, and just left it alone.
That rust out in the top of the drivers door looks as though it was parked half way inder a shed, with water pouring on that spot. The top of the bed, where it mates to end caps is pulled up like that on both sides.
Pretty crusty critter..but someone will want it.....Glad you saved it. Kool its got a 3.91 in it ! Or had a 3.91....
I'll get pics of the Charger on soon..gotta get batteries for the digital camera..that thing eats batteries quick....
I'd really like to just sell this truck as is to someone who'd fix it up. I'd let it go pretty cheap if I sell it before I start investing time and money into it. If not, I might keep the mirrors, 3.91 chunk, steering gearbox ,seat and hood, and salvage the rest.
