Ben, collecting tools, old or new, is not a dis-order, that's just natural.

I understand what you are saying, but most collectors don't let their collections, whatever it might be, sit out and ruin. My other interest has always been watches. I have almost fifty wrist watches that are mostly Bulova's from the fifties. I keep them cleaned and oiled and wear them regularly, and would never think of storing them where I knew that they would just deteriorate. That's the part that I don't quite understand about someone like the owner of those trucks. I don't call him a collector, he's a hoarder. I have to disagree with you about him giving you one, though. I doubt you could pry any one of them away from him.

yep - hoarder is the perfect word. my dad is a hoarder of many things. the one thing that always killed me was how he kept his manuals and books from his days in the service shop. when the city of st. pete came and lowered the boom on his junk collection he asked me if i wanted them. problem was i had to take them all...

the other neighbor near him had a collection of rocks - most had crystals inside them...i think they were geodes or something. they sat outside and some got ruined from the elements. i asked her for one a long time ago thinking she would say they were not for sale or she quote an outrageous price and she simply asked what i was going to do with it. i said i was going to get cleaned up and put on my shelf to display it. she picked out a really nice one and gave it to me... i was surprised.

all of these things could have easily been sold or given away before they were "lost". i have seen a hoarder give away thing to the right person but for the most part i agree - those trucks are not going anywhere any time soon.

OK, I admit it. I have a collection of Motors Repair Manuals too. Mine cover every year from 1915 to 1980. I stopped buying them after that and started buying specific service manuals for my vehicles. I am reforming though. I recently sold my 40 year collection of Hot Rod magazine. But they were always stored properly.

One plate I saw said Sunny Manitoba, 100,000 lakes from 71.

TWIN FALLS, ID—One local classic car will soon be featured on a U.S. Postage stamp. The 1957 Chrysler 300C owned by Twin Falls resident George McKovich was used as the actual model for a 42- cent stamp. McKovich’s car will be on display Oct. 3, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the USPS Pioneer Station, located at 1376 Fillmore St. The car is one of five featured in the 50s Fins and Chrome stamp series, and will be available for sale at all local Post Offices on Oct. 3. USPS has printed 50 million of the 42-cent First-Class stamps.

I love my truck and it is a member of my family. Those trucks in that collection are it's family so it's like seeing a member of my family going to waste and it pains me and apparently many others-we must try to save them all!

I think the guy who took the pictures knows even better. Just because somebody is selling a Sweptside doesn't mean they know anything about this. It is in Nebraska and I found the proof. I wasted a bunch of time looking around Idaho because that was what I believed early on.

the link shown to an auction in the ebay ad shows its the same restored fargo thats in this link: http://imageevent.com/idsnowman
i have no idea if they're his trucks but he would certainly know where they are, and the geography in that area of idaho is pretty flat.

In response to the "its a myth" refering to the Portugal barn cars. Here is the link to the "Original " story. Hope this puts this story to rest. Lots more pics too.

You guys are funny. It's not in my yard, and I don't have what it takes to make it my yard, so I am content to just admire the pretty pictures.

I found the place with satellite imagery as posted before. I found it in Nebraska. Is my word not good enough for you? If not, find satellite imagery or something else that proves me wrong. I've done my part and if you, or anyone else, refuses to believe me there isn't much I can do about that. I am not going to post the satellite image here.

Who has that kind of time to search square miles of nebraska with satellite imagery when the resolution for half the state is horrible? :pale You probably couldn't see it if you did manage to find it!

I agree that the guy deserves his privacy, but it really is such a waste. I read the article in Hot Rod about the chevy collector, too. It was lie (8) 53' trailers that he had STUFFED with all sorts of stuff. That guy was especially nutty, because he would take the HiPo motors out of the cars, replace them with standard stuff and keep the HiPo blocks on stands, like they were going to go back in.

Not that i'm sane, because I just want to walk around there for hours. Sit in the cabs, look behind the seats for interesting "forgotten" things. The biggest waste is going to be when they all end up as razor blades. Seeing a collection like that makes me want to save up money and keep checking the obits in Nebraska.

I guess I do. Actually it wasn't that bad. I had a few really good clues from the pictures so I didn't have to search most of the state. I then followed the railroad tracks and it led me to the location. I spent less time looking in Nebraska than I did in Idaho. Some satellite imagery sites are better that others when it comes to resolution.
