Re: I Wonder Where This Is?
It IS Nebraska. I didn't see any evidence supporting that it it is Idaho, only speculation. There aren't numerous Idaho license plates. There are 2 pictures that give really good clues of the location. The person who photographed these pictures confirmed that I am correct. These trucks are NOT for sale.
There are around 200 trucks in 2 buildings plus the ones outside.

Re: I Wonder Where This Is?
Which brings up the next question - why post these pictures if a guy can't buy anything? Obviously the owner knew pics were being taken (I'm assuming one of the people pictured IS the owner). Why dangle these pics out there and then say "I know where they are, and the guy is not interested in talking to anyone or selling anything, but I figured you guys would want to see this, I know where they are and you don't, and I've-got-a-secret,-and-I'm-not-gonna-tell-el!" Pretty asinine thing to do, dont'cha think!

Re: I Wonder Where This Is?
be careful which way you go Wide65 & Hellbelly, for I clearly read Wendall Idaho on the photo album and the burms I've seen the Studebaker, if you come through Colorado your going to see trucks anyway all the way to Idaho, probably as many that are in the pictures, so hopefully you've got along vacation, theirs a good 50 that you can see in one day here
thats not counting all the trucks in Colorado Springs and along I25, Snow will be your problem here soon though

Re: I Wonder Where This Is?
I am glad someone did post the link to those pictures since I would probably never have seen them otherwise. I also enjoyed looking at some of the other albums at the base link, especially the Sweptside restoration. But it makes me wonder, why would anyone hoarde up that many trucks only to improperly store them where they will deteriorate and become vandalized. As I was looking at the pics I mentally bet myself that the owner wouldn't sell any of them, and apparently I was right about that. I've seen that situation too many times. Usually it's "I'm gonna fix it up" but in this case there's way too many for the owner to "fix up", so what does he intend to do with them? I can only hope he doesn't purchase any more trucks only to let them sit and rot. I think "Dodge Truck Hell" might be a more appropriate name than Dodge Truck Heaven. This reminds me of a story in Hot Rod Magazine a while back. A guy had tons of very valuable GM cars and parts, had them stored in trailers and had welded the doors shut, then backed the trailers back to back. So then he died and his family sold off the stuff for way less than it was worth. These trucks will probably meet the same fate, or get crushed. What's the logic in that?

Re: I Wonder Where This Is?
I'm not sure why the person who took the photographs posted them for all to see but I'm glad they were posted. However, there are some very determined people out there like me who will not stop short of finding them. Yesterday I located the exact location using satellite imagery. It seems to be a very remote location. It is probably not visible from any main road and it isn't near any town. It could be one of those areas where they shoot first and ask questions later. I've been trying to find a way to post an aerial photo but it seems to be the wrong file extension and I can't change it. I still would like to visit this place one day just for the hell of it.
Since I started this thread I feel somewhat responsible and don't want to give out the location. If you are determined enough you can find it on your own. If they were my trucks I wouldn't want the location revealed and have people go there and mess with things. Not that any of the regulars here would do that but this is a site that anyone can view.
To the person who said they were up for a road trip, you live in Colorado and you can find Sweptlines all over your area. How are these trucks any different? I know you probably want to see more just like me and I don't blame you.

Re: I Wonder Where This Is?
Soopernaut,
that was Orgendodgeboy, he is in Idaho, no one from Colorado would go just to see for as you said we have that many trucks sittin at people's houses, and as Russ mentioned it is a terrible thing to see that many trucks just sit and rot
but if under the right circustances driving up in a PowerWagon or Sweptline, the owner may want to buy it also! but after thinking about it what difference would it make, what state of anyone who wanted to visit?? I haven't met a truck owner yet that wasn't a good person?

Russ' point is well taken. I think that we should assemble a "greeting party", two or three Swetliners near there to show up together in their Swepts (if possible). Put on our nicest diplomatic hats and go see if the "natives" are friendly or not.

Not being FOR SALE is actually a GOOD thing! Instead of being temped to buy something, I'm just temped to go visit.

Yeah, that's part of why I think there should be two or three in the greeting party. And though I wouldn't be carrying anything obvious, I'd have something hidden away in the truck for just such a need.steven wrote:"click click* lol

Actually, I was refering to Wide65's post. He is in Colorado.
I don't completely agree with what Russ said either. Are you saying if a person buys a vehicle with their own money and no longer plans on driving it, they shouldn't be able to leave it sit because it is more valuable to you than it is to them? These trucks really have no value and probably never will. They are hunks of metal. There are plenty of them for sale, even on this site, that never sell and end up being crushed. I would rather see them sit than be crushed. That is probably what will happen to them when the owner decides to move on. The way they sit now makes for great scenery.MountainMoparRobin wrote:and as Russ mentioned it is a terrible thing to see that many trucks just sit and rot![]()

Re: I Wonder Where This Is?
No thats not what I said or even eluded to, for they aren't more valuable to me than to themselves, every and anyone can do what ever they want, but the shame is that their may be people that would restore them, clearly the man would have to be a millionaire to restore all those vehicles, and its good that as you said some one has saved them from the crusher. Their is a possibility that they may be his retirement account, for I did see one of the trucks that is a highly sought out rare truck. Nebraska, and Idaho aren't far from here and I wouldn't be afraid of droping by, however it would be in my Sweptline, and don't just jump to conclusions and think I'm going, for I'm not, but I have no problem approaching strangers, but don't have that in my plans, What Russ and alot of us have seen is a vehicle sit in someone's yard for decade's for they say they don't want to sale, not even to someone who has the money to restore it and put it back on the road, and the vehicle rust to beyond repair and when the owner dies the vehicle gets hauled off to a recycling center, that is a crying shame, especially when some one could have put that piece of machine back on the road and been enjoyed by someone who had a love for the vehicle. Just because their are hundreds of Sweptlines here doesn't mean we are any less interested in trucks than anyone else, infact the last cruise left all the truck owners with more questions and desire, and we spent hours upon hours looking and talking about trucks

Re: I Wonder Where This Is?
I agree with what Robin said.

You need to re-read what I said. I said I wonder why someone wants to hoarde up that many vehicles only to let them sit and rot, not that they shouldn’t be allowed to do it. Their value to me is zero so that has no bearing on it. Someone has a lot of cash tied up there in all of those trucks so what’s the purpose? To loose money and keep the trucks away from someone else who would take care of it? Most of those trucks look like they were decent running and driving trucks before they went into the tomb to await the vandals or the crusher. Many of them probably would have gone to owners who would take care of them and keep them on the road. The trucks on this forum that wind up crushed are mostly just parted out hulks.
Are you saying that you don’t mind seeing that CSS sit out and rot away?

Re: I Wonder Where This Is?
there are many collections like this - not just Dodge trucks but cars of different makes to collections of rocks to collections of newspapers.
it is form of Obsessive Compulsion Disorder and many people have various degrees of it. sometimes it is very subtle and sometimes it is not. i collect car brochures and old tools for no particular reason - it is something i can not help. my father inlaw checks the locks and windows three times in the night... still can't figure that out.
either way this guy collect trucks - cool ones and not so cool ones. i bet if he likes you well enough he would as soon give it to you and make room for another than sell it. my dad is this way with power tools, cameras and general junk. he buys oddball stuff from garage sales and hordes it in his shop or gives them to his kids. i help my mother out by taking what he gives me and either tossing it out or finding a home for it. when he finally drive the HPP to the drag strip in the sky we're gonna have our hands full cleaning up his piles of stuff. currently i have 16 boxes of Motors and Chilton's manuals from the 50's, 60's and 70's that he gave me... some have already found their way onto ebay or to various friend's shelves... (i kept a few really cool ones for me).
