No. I was also hauling a bunch of furniture and other stuff my parents gave to my wife and I.DavidWymore wrote:Yeah, I hear it's even hot over there in the SD area. No fun when most people don't have AC in their houses.
Did you just rent the truck/trailer to haul it or what?

Cool, sounds like it worked out good. Good luck with the truck, holler if you need anything. I'll have to check it out sometime, I like it.
Re: New Sweptline Owner in So. Cal
Anytime you are in San Diego let me know.
I found the SERT tag by the drivers door near the VIN Plate. I also see what looks to be 4 stripes painted over on the roof. Im pretty sure this is a CSS truck. It has the bucket seats and the center console.
Also an interesting note. Today at the DMV when I was getting my title all squared away and passing inspection they also made me go and get the truck weighed. My truck weighs a whopping 4520 lbs. Much more than what I thought it would be.

I get up there every so often, usually last minute.
That's about what I'd guess for weight, cool it's a CSS!
I saw this truck at cruise night in El Cajon last year or so. Gotta be some more swepty guys around.

Re: New Sweptline Owner in So. Cal
Wow, that is heavy. Is that with you in it? If the 2 tanks are full that could be some of the extra weight, also the A/C stuff and the topper add weight.ZAR wrote:My truck weighs a whopping 4520 lbs. Much more than what I thought it would be.
Re: New Sweptline Owner in So. Cal
It was weighed without me in it. It would have weighed much more with me in it
Both tanks were pretty full and yes that topper probably weighs alot too. If I would have known they were going to weigh my truck to calculate registration I would have emptied the tanks, removed the topper and completly clean the truck from top to bottom removing everything from the back of the truck. I was pissed. On my registration it lists the truck as commercial which i don't think is right. Does anyone else in California know if their truck is registered as commercial??

Mine is but it's a 7000 pound 1995 one ton 4x4 cummins diesel ram, 38" tires, etc. I wouldn't think yours should be comm. Mine's about $400 a year. Noncomm should be quite a bit less. How much did they charge you? You might go ahead and strip it out and get it reweighed. My mom used to work at at Ford dealer and said anything with a bed is commercial...

Re: New Sweptline Owner in So. Cal
That's not bad. Not compared to mine. I keep thinking about ditching this monster for an old presmog 4x4 1 ton. Cheaper to run and repiar, except the Cummins gets great mileage for a truck that size, plus whatever you want to tow.
Re: New Sweptline Owner in So. Cal

IF you'd told them @ DMV it had a 'permanently' mounted 'camper', you MIGHT have gotten away from the commercial.
At least that is how it used to be 'back in the day'.

All Trucks in CA are registered as commercial vehicles; A few hundred pounds does not make a much of a difference in terms of fees. My old cars are capped out at 52 dollars a year, my '47 Jeep, '63 & '65 1/2tons are under 80 apiece with commercial tags ( I don't want to give up the original YOM plates). A camper shell will not pass for a permanent mount camper, I learned 1st hand with my Power Wagon. You can opt for historical vehicle plates which run about 15 dollars a year, but limit you to 2k miles a year for show or maintenance purposes only. You can try to obtain YOM passenger car plates and register your truck as such with the camper shell on.
Good luck,
Adam

More pics of my truck, now with the shell off. When I took off the shell the wood was rotted badly. A guy still came and took it off my hands.

The bed is untouched only some surface rust.

That's a cool looking truck. Black CSS stripes would look awesome with that gold!!!
