looks like a good core.

can't help but think you paid a pretty high price though. then again, i can't say it never happened to me.

did you get it running?

I think its worth it. But that engine doesn’t look like a 440 to me.

This is the little tractor I traded for the D100. I bought the tractor for $700 then invested another $120 to get it running and new seat cushions for $300. So $1,120 is what I'm paying for the Sweptline. The gentleman is respectable fellow and is suppose to deliver the running D and I'm to start and drive it off the trailer. Them I'm going to go through it a get it going for the woman.

Is that trailer even rated for a tractor like that? Also that sounds like a reasonable deal. I bet your women is gonna love that 68 to death :lol ;Thumbsup

S, the little D2 weights 7k so the trailer is barely rated for it. This was my first time using the Mc Mobile's wicked winch. It pulled the dead D2 with no troubles.

H, she's a good woman, possibly the best if she wasn't so bull headed!!!!

G, nothing on the back of the D2. I have a D4 with a Hystler winch, a R5 with a logging winch, R5 with a pto, and a cable dozer D8 with a dual cable drum on the rear.

Mike, you should get yourself a low boy. My grandpa has one; boy is it heavy and bounce around a lot when empty. But hell does that thing haul heavy stuff, and trails nice to. Also you going to make a video of that nice truck running?

Personally I think you did ok- that '68's a pretty cute package with a number of good, clean sought after parts- show it a little Mc-Lovin' and I'm sure it'll clean up nice!

WOW! Now that's one well optioned truck! :Thumbsup I think that somebody ordered themselves a muscle truck back in 68. Optioned it out too. If it were mine, I'd restore it back to original, including the red and white colors. Keep the wheels and everything. It's totally vintage right now, so I wouldn't change a thing, (except I'd lose the old cassette player mounted under the dash by the door).


Well,... I would be tempted to put a thumpin' 440 and 727 in it and go flirt with the 10 second quarter mile barrier. But to each his (or her) own. :lol: :Thumbsup

Well the retired fellow honored his word and brought the D100 to it's new home. We agreed he would be able to drive it off the trailer.

When filling out the paper work I started to wright a 150,000 miles but he thought the odometer had been turned over at least 3x's. So I put 350,000 on the paper work.

The truck has a nice gear ratio with the newer 3:20 rear end and 31" tires. I fallowed my buddy at 55 and the Swept Speedo showed 37mph :Thumbsup

The Carter Quadro Jet Carb is gummed up and it doesn't want to rev. So I'm going to give it a complete service and send her down the road. It needs a note on the dash "DON"T FORGET CELL PHONE!" She always seems to forget it.... I think so I can't pest her. Once the bugs are worked out paint it.

Nice!!! I like it the way it sits, on the outside. The wheels help a bunch. Shoot, for what you had in that D4 Cat, you didn't get hurt. Runs, doesn't smoke, with paperwork...shoot, looks like a great little truck for what you have in it.

Wash it real good with some ScotchBrite pads, AJAX powder and hot water, an it'll look pretty good. Then, compound, wax, and buff. That might come out pretty damn nice!

Got the truck up and running but don't have a lot of experience tuning gas engines and was needing some tuning specs for the 440 with a 383 distributor.

What are the points suppose to be set at and timing advance?

Is this old 60's distributor a machanical and vacuum advance?

You cant put a 383 dist in a 440, you can put a 440 dist in a 383, with a spacer.
If your wife wants to drive it, get rid of the points, buy a elec dist from a parts store, wire in an hei module out of a gm, and get rid of the ballast. This will get rid of the three causes of a no start, burned points, bad ballast, and bad chrysler ignition.
I use this guys sweet little bracket, it sure cleans up the engine bay.

Well, sure, I have no idea the qaulity of the thing, but for 44 dollars, sure. You will need different plug wires though, that cap is male pronged, when a stock one is female.
Small block is easy, as the newer magnum stuff is that way, and the plug wires will fit, I have no clue on a big block what you would do for wires, maybe msd or something uses that style.

I had an H3 hummer in the shop yesterday that ran rough, turns out it had one coil pack out of five that was shot, 190 bucks for one coil pack and it ran smooth again, aint technology great. :thinking For forty some dollars you can run all 8 cylinders. For 190, it ran one.
