Speaking of guns is that a M1 Gerrand made by IH in the 1940s?
I heard from my grandfather that GIs carried spent clips because the Germans would think you were out of ammo when they heared the ting of the 5 round clip being ejected from the magazine when you were out of rounds. So guys would toss them against something to make the sound of it being ejected to catch the Germans off guard.

I have (3) three M1 Garands made by IHC. (2) two are early 1952's and the third is a 1954. IHC made the fewest of the Garands and that of course makes them worth a little more. I do have a couple others, made before and during WWII. My fav is a Winchester made a couple months before Pearl Harbor...........lot of history and tales, if they could only speak!

Actually the clips held 8 rounds [the 5 rd models are to make them legal for hunting]. YES, the Japanese, German, AND North Korean[Chinese] did listen for the distenctive "ting" that the weapon ejects the magazine after the last round and locks the chamber open insertion of the next magazine.
Which often led to a case of 'M-1 thumb", caused by getting a thumb in the way of the bolt when inserting the magazine which unlocks the follower.

Enough info for ya?? :study

M1 thumb.........very painful. I know from personally not making sure the bolt was locked back once while I was checking out the follower. OUCH!
