blower switch removal

Post by heviarti »

How the heck does this thing come out? I've tried several things with the little button on the case... pull, then press.. press then pull, press and turn, all to no avail. I'm just about to pull the tabs and disassemble the switch in place.

It could be something wrong insode the switch, because I bo longer feel any resistance in the switch for the spring-retained switch positions. the switch is also not working. It's also getting toward winter.. I worked from 8:00 last night to 2:30 thismorning fixing my heater, fuel sender, and putting in a new window regulator and some controls. I also found ragasty deposits on my right bank of plugs.. I got out the door at 5:00 to head for work and couldn't because i have no blower now, so no defrost.

I need some word on how this switch comes loose of the dash, and soon.

Not sure what year you have, but on my 68 D-100 it is removed like this:

B (Blower) This has a set screw that you loosen, then pull knob off, remove small round nut, and the cable comes out the back, this also has a 3 prong wire that is attached to it.

H (Heater) This knob has a set screw, THEN, the knob UNSCREWS off the cable, then remove the small chrome nut, and cable comes out the back.

Hope it helps you with yours!

switch

My 66 blower switch comes out by pushing and holding in the button on the side/top of the switch. With little knob pushed in just pull the knob and shaft out. Then you can remove the nut holding it to the dash. Just like the headlight switch.

On the 67 and earlier switch they do sometime
get a little sticky, just keep the button down and
keep pushing and pulling till it come out......
You could spray a WD40 on the back side and
may help, won't harm.....

well, I got it out and i see the problem. the black crusty thing(s) broke.

Inside the switch, between the carrier and the little brass piece is one or more thing(s) made of some kind of stuff. it's disintegrated into black, crispy dust, and now i need to make a new one so the switch will work again. has anyone taken pics of all the components in one of these switches, so a fellow can get an idea of what he needs to build to keep an original blower switch working?

I just keep a few spares around just in case...
pick them up at the yard when I see them....

Till find one, a standard togel will work just fine,
just be on full or off.... no in between

There's enough remaining i should be able to fix it, all i need at this point is a good idea what the crumbled to dust part looks like, and I can prolly just build a new component and put the switch back together. of the better than ten trucks I've seen, my flatbed is the only one that's had a complete original blower switch. my '62 has an aftermarket switch that works backwards, and i hate it. half on for full speed? lame.
