Have to hold key to the right to run?

I just got my truck(69' D200, 383BB) outta the shop getting the clutch replaced. On the way home it died on me. Truck would attempt to fire but would sputter out. Don't know how but I figured out that if I hold the key to the right of on position but not quite far enough to engage the starter, it will run like a top. So I figured it was the ignition switch and went out and got a replacement from auto zone and installed it. Same problem!!! Is there some sort of relay that's bad? Please help...

I had the same problem. Replaced the switch and it worked. You might try checking the connection where the ignition wire goes through the firewall. I also had that happen to the same truck. I ended up just pushing the wire through the plug and rehooking it up under the hood.

It ended up being, wait for it..... Ballast resistor!!! It rained that day so I had my suspicions. I recently went with hei distributor so I didn't even need the damn thing. Jumpered it out and went fishing. Thanks guys...
