Modern stereo volume drop

I have one of those stereos in my truck that automatically drops the volume when I start up the engine. Unfortunately, the volume also drops when I turn the wipers on. Is there anything I can do to fix this? Thanks.

Sounds like something is dropping the voltage going to the Stereo. What circuit is the main power to the radio wired to? How many amps is your radio pulling? You may be trying to pull too big of a load over that circuit.

Having a look at my wiring, the power for the stereo with the ignition switch on is connected to the black wire, according to my diagram is labeled L-1. This goes to one of the instrument cluster lights. I've since observed that when I turn on the wipers the aftermarket tach and oil pressure gauges go off momentarily and then come back on again. They all seem to be connected to the same power source.

I want to try isolating the stereo from the aftermarket gauges. Does anyone have a recommendation on where to tap for an ignition-on only power source?

I'd try to stay as close to the battery as possible. Maybe from the starter relay on the inner fender. That way you don't have to worry about voltage drop through other components.
