I had an International Harvester Travelall with a 361 Dodge truck engine and Clark five speed transmission from a school bus, a nine inch Ford rear end and a laminated wood front bumper made from the pin blocks of junked pianos. All the fuel lines, most of the wire and as much else as we could get away with were all aircraft....even the battery, which was a 24V NiCad with half its cells removed. The steering wheel was a masterpiece, hand turned on a lathe from a Pratt and Whitney turbine disk with spokes made from scrapped blades. The turn signal was capped with the handle from the lav sanitary pad dispenser.

Most of the work was done by two night shift mechanics at TWA in St. Louis. I bought it when I was at Eastern. I redid the wiring and painted it gold, because TWA was getting rid of the outdated gold paint that was used just for the globe on the tail trim. They had hundreds of gallons of it! Each airplane used maybe a quart. The TWA guys were great even though our managements hated each other. It was just like "Airport" (the original one with Dean Martin).

My first (ex-)wife kept it when we divorced and her idiot brother drove it down a boat ramp into a quarry. He got out of it, and it's now in 500 feet of water. I wonder if some archaeologists will find it in a thousand years and draw bizarre conclusions from it.
