Headlight upgrade
Need to do something about the headlights. the ones on it now are the style that have the half shields on them. look neat, but functionality is CRAP. the lights are also a bit dim and yellow. Anyone have a good option for upgrade. I like to see where I'm going.
or maybe I just go stock.

Re: Headlight upgrade
go stock and run them from a relay. gets you full system voltage by not running all the current through the old harness and switch.
brightens them right up.

Re: Headlight upgrade
I like the H4 conversions. Much better focus. Check the voltage at the headlight plug with the headlight installed. You might be surprised at how much voltage loss sneaks in the system sometimes. Erik

Re: Headlight upgrade
We did a H4 conversion on my son's 72 240z....yeah...not a Dodge but still had dim bulbs. Got the lights from http://stores.ebay.com/Autopal-Lights and gave him I swear about 300% more light on lows and highs. The thing I liked about the kit we got was it was glass and steel not plastic. Later we did a relay setup with a Putco harness. I think we got that off Amazon.com just search for H4 harness. A great improvement!!!

Go stock. "If it ain't broke, why mess with it"? Get a relay switch. Look at article gmc guy 6066 has on how to hook up a relay switch.

Re: Headlight upgrade
Take the shields off and replace your lights with the Halogen type.

Re: Headlight upgrade
Here is a kit I have used for a 2 headlight H4 conversion wiring. Works real well on my kids 72 Datsun. Lights are much brighter and was a 30 minute upgrade. http://www.putcoautoaccessories.com/Wir ... _info.html They also have one for the 4 headlight conversion too.

Re: Headlight upgrade
The stock ones are very bright and if you have halogen your light will be even brighter, even if you upgrade, if your grounds aren't clean your still not going to get the full effect of light.mbalbritton wrote:Need to do something about the headlights. the ones on it now are the style that have the half shields on them. look neat, but functionality is CRAP. the lights are also a bit dim and yellow. I also went with the H4 Auto-pal lights. they work great. just watch what wattage bulbs you put in them. I think mine are the 55 watt bulbs(low beam) I also put a set in an old D50 and people were hitting me with there brights ,when mine were on low.

Re: Headlight upgrade
Forgot about this thread and seems I missed a good bit of action on it.
I ripped the silly shields off and That alone was enough. Still need to check/replace all wiring to be honest. But it's much better with out the shields.

Still within the stock realm, GE Nighthawk are about the best sealed beam available. Available at your local WalMart! I have them on my truck, and noticed just how good they were when I was stopped behind a ~'80 Chevy pickup at a stop light once. My headlights were outshining his...

Re: Headlight upgrade
I ordered the H4 harness from Putco. I think I'll be able to put it in this week. A pretty simple install I hope and it removes all the current from passing through the light switch, the old vehicle wiring, and the fuse block. It draws the current directly from the battery to power the lights. Much brighter and safer that way.
