Opinion only. I'm pretty sure the product is o.k., however, my personal experience with aftermarket parts isn't so good. Try breaking down in the middle of nowhere in need of an aftermarket part. Keep spare parts in the glove box. Just my own thoughts... John, Tyler, TX

I always stay with Mother MoPar. Easy upgrade. They did it right!

:goodpost

its always nice to have spares of even the most basic items...In my DD 72 I only drive about 30 miles from my house, but its a back road with one gas station, and sparse dairy farms..In my truck I have electrical tape, teflon tape, duct tape (easier to explain to cops then handcuffs :joker ) short pieces of 5/16 fuel line, 5/8 heater hose, rolls of misc length 16GA wire, points, old spark plugs (you never know lol..) radiator cap, light bulbs, nuts and bolts, even a fuel level sending unit and float, tranny fluid (even though its a 3 speed) power steering fluid, 4 gallons of water (all drinkable or for the radiator)....theres much more, but thats about it....it all fits in a bag between the gas tank and side, tucked into the cab corner....If I break down ANYWHERE desolate I can find a way to fix it, replace it, or rig it to work :Thumbsup

I don't know if you're having problems, and thats why you were asking about that part, but even if you are not having problems carry a couple of extra original MOPAR pieces...plug and play...If its aftermarket, and it breaks, you have to wait for it in the mail or whatever...unless at the time you buy the original aftermarket piece, you order a few "spares" for down the road....just my :2cents

I don't know about the part in the eBay link but do like my MSD6A and even most generic auto parts stores carry them these days (though it is an expensive part to have to road replace).

I was ready to vote against it, but after looking at the price and that it comes with a 3 year warranty, I would be willing to try it. If it breaks and they don't come through, your only out $50 and that would be worth the lesson. Then again it may turn out great, like the pertronix kits did. (Granted I'm thinking 318 driver, not high compression performance engine)

I learned my idea of having "emergency" parts on hand honestly. May 1985 I got my Grandparents 1967 Dodge 383/727/4.10. Under the seat were old rotten belts, hoses, spark plugs, plug wires etc. Later I found that Chevy owners carried their parts too, HEI ignition modules and rotors... John, Tyler, Tx

I have been doing the HEI swap in all my mopars for years. You get a better spark, better gas mileage and better performance than any of the P.O.S. mopar ignition boxes no matter what color they are. That distributer is just a stock 73 and up electronic dist. with a fancy pod that hides a 4 pin HEI unit. You can do the HEI swap yourself if you have a stock electronic distributer, 4 pin HEI unit, and a MSD Blaster 2 style coil. You MUST upgrade your coil or it will kill it self at low idle in the middle of traffic....on the freeway..... during rush hour (the first time I did the upgrade I didn't know about the coil). All the parts to do this upgrade are readily available at any parts store in case your car dies on you.
Another swap I do is upgrade to a GM one wire alt. Ma Mopar got the style and the drive train right but lets face it their electrical systems just plain suck! I don't like my headlights going dim at stop lights or burning my arm on a hot ballast resistor.

This might help out anyone looking to upgrade... http://slantsix.org/forum/viewtopic.php ... hlight=hei
