Trying to fix the dome light..1968 d-200...is there any thing else to turn the dome light on..door switch ...other than the usual turn of the headlight switch....I have a yellow wire between the bulb and the fuse panel only .....Greg

On a '68 you should have a slot in your dome light lens with at lever sticking out of it. That lever turns it off and on.

I was having the same problem. Unfortunately, my socket is fubar......think I'll replace the whole thing with something aftermarket and add an external rocker switch.

I installed a 69 to 71 headlight switch in my 66 W100 allowing me to turn on interior light by turning knob. Was an easy mod. I did use an interior light harness/socket from a 69 to 71 also. Need the 2 contact style bulb. If I wanted to door switches could be added now to circuit.

the 68 and earlier switch was used the all the way back to the 1930s in Chrysler products. they can be found on ebay once you know what they look like

I have a '69 where the dome light switch - the little lever - is frozen in time. I tried some WD40 to no avail. Any suggestions on how to free it up or a suitable replacement of some sort? Thanks.

Take it out and soak it in something better than weasel piss 40. The little handle will unscrew but be careful. You might get lucky cleaning it up.

My '71 has the door switches. They are the same door switch utilized on passenger cars of that era--probably 20 years of production. So they should be readily available. As the cab/doors have been pretty much unchanged, I would think you could retrofit the door switches without an issue. The wiring is pretty simple.

If you decide to go this way, I could take photos and measurements as to where the door switches are specifically located in my '71.

Another option would be to utilize magnetic door switches, commonly used in home alarm systems. The downside with those is you would have to utilize a relay to drive and incandescent lamp load. The upside is the mounting is a simple drilled hole and they are pretty forgiving about alignment and no plunger depth issues. An LED dome lamp bulb may have low enough current draw where a relay would not be required.

I bought some brand new on ebay. In years past when I was playing with that Dart wagon, the OEM car didn't have dome light switches on the rear doors. So I installed such switches in those door jambs just threading them into the steel like a sheet metal screw. Worked fine.

If that's the goal, I'd pull it and soak it in PB Blaster overnight. Bust the bulb, put a tab in a vise, and twist out the bulb socket, pushing into the socket, rocking, and twisting it with vise grips. Soak again socket side up. Then try the switch. If necessary, add a little heat.

Do you have any DeOxit spray? That might loosen up the switch.
Once it loosens up.... perhaps smear a bit of dielectric grease on the
mechanism and on the bulb/socket contacts.

So those switches and white plastic dome covers are impossible to find anywhere? I just took mine apart today and the switch was gone, cover a bit cracked.

My 65 has door switches but no provision in headlight switch for on/off of interior light. Door switches were an option I guess? Also there is a slot in interior lense but no lever. Is this normal?

Your truck has been modified. Door switches started in 69 or 70 and the headlight switch was changed then too. Prior to that it was only the lever switch at the light itself. That cover is $60 at the above linked website.
