Radio antenna

Post by tom-adc »

Where is the proper placement for the antenna? Driver or passenger side I've seen them on both sides but look to me like the passenger side would be easiest to do.

On my '67 its on the passenger side. On the '65 its on the drivers. Im using the '65 cab, and Im going to leave it on the drivers side to avoid welding anymore than I have to  And, on the drivers side I think its cool because you dont see any vehicles with it there. Just a thought.

My early '65 is on the passenger side, I guess its wherever they felt like drilling a hole.?

I like mine on the drivers side.It keeps it from being torn off by tree limbs.Of course with that shiny red paint, you might not brush beat your truck as much as I do. :joker

Pretty cold here today and my grandsons 21st birthday so party for him tonight & I'm doing the cooking!
But plan on drilling the hole for antenna on passenger side just because it looks easier. I also need to mark and cut the dash for the new radio.
I found the layout for the hole in my shop manual under accessories.

Tom, before drilling the hole, open the door and look up in through the upper hinge hole with a flashlight. You will see a wall in there that separates the cowl area from the area that you are looking into. Be sure to drill the antenna hole outside that wall. It's not likely that you would put the antenna that far in but just being sure.

My '67s are on opposite sides, but the CSS has a factory radio, with the antenna on the driver's side.

Both of my '71 trucks have the antenna on the passenger side, and both had/have factory AM radios.

I'm with Roger on this one.

Hole drilled on passenger side and much to my surprise there was a hole already in the inside panel for the wire to pass through.
Cut the dash for the new radio but did not install until I finish the doors.

Tom, are you referring to the small hole above the larger cowl plug? My truck has one on both sides. It's for the courtesy light switch wires, I think.
I also ran my antenna lead through it.

Russ that's probably it. after I drilled the antenna hole I looked in it and saw the other hole so easy place to run wire didn't look at the other side.
Wouldn't mind a little light there but I doubt I'll drive the truck at night anyway.
