Charging Problem Fixed

A while back my '62 W100 stopped charging, so we replaced the alternator with a new one. My Dad and I replaced the voltage regulator and replaced a few wires and it still wouldn't charge. Today I swapped the alternator from my Dad's PW and put in on mine. Started it up and the gauge finally showed that it was charging. So new alternators don't always work. If it doesn't charge, test the alt. even though it may be new.

Not the frist time I have seen that, had a brand new rebuilt almost burn up a wire harness because it was
grounded inside, saw a puff of smoke when I turned the
key on, turned it off just in time to save my wires..
still had to replace the field wire....

Case and point... That alternator we got at the junk yard last summer works fine and dandy!
