12 volt dc to 6 vdc
I have a 6 vdc timer/small motor that uses up 6 a volt lantern battery in two weeks. This sets in the woods and has no AC power nearby. I have a spare 12 volt battery. What would it take to step 12vdc down to 6vdc? I didn't want the expense of rechargable 6vdc battery/ solar charger. I could take the battery home to charge every couple of months or put in my truck to recharge. I've got an electronics store here but don't know what to ask for.

I know theres a way to step the voltage down using a resistor set up depending on the amperage draw. I might would try a variable resistor (kinda like on your blower switch, or a dimmer switch for a house light) be sure it heavy enough to carry the load. You might try asking the guy at the elec. store or ask someone at an elecrical supply store. Is it for an electric fence or something?

Its an automatic feeder controller. A digital clock/timer controls a small motor to run for ten seconds per day. This throws feed out. Doesn't a ballast resistor drop voltage to from 12 to 6 volts when running in a point set up? It don't know about the amps. Its way over my head.
Trey that sounds good to me. See you there. Steve
