Trailer wiring

Post by centralwildcat »

So on my 69 D200 CC, I put a new flat, 4 prong/7 pin combo trailer hook up on. I wated to run the new wiring independetly of the old wiring, so I ran the new wires in its own loom to the front of the truck. Now, I am wondering if I just hook up the wires directly to the turn signal posts on the gauges, to the brake pedal switch???? What do I do for the running lights? Where should the wiring go?? Does anyone have expierence in starting from scratch, and not scabing into the old harness?? mattc :thinking

At some point you have to get contected into the old system, one very clean way of doing
close to what your after is to use all the plugs that are under the dash from the steering
column, you should be able to do a pretty clean job of it under there with the right connectors.....
Brake light has to run though the signal switch to work right unless you add another
set of lights on the trailer for brakes, and one set for signals..... this will limit you
to only useing a trailer set up for this, most trailers are not set up that way and only have
the one light to do both functions.....
