67 d100 rear axle seals and bearing
i've done lots of rear wheel bearing
but never anything like this
guess the inner seals go in from the inside
thinking the wheel bearings are just packed with wheel bearing grease and adjusted with .0001/.0015 free play like a front
are these to be repacked at every 30k or something the only thing i seen close is my 50 dodge

There is an inner axle housing seal that is removed/installed from the outside. There is a load adjuster on the right axle to adjust end play. Axle bearings are loaded with bearing grease. The 1967 FSM has the step by step for the procedure. Can be found online.

boy those inner seals must be stuck hard tried slide hammer and they didn't budge
i just looked at the one axle and saw the adjuster (thought they both had it)

THOSE seals can be hard to remove, keep working at it. There is a pin that the axles float on that goes through the center of the gear set, this pin is a two piece with spring pin in the middle to help hold them in place, sometimes one will fall out when the axle is removed. check the tube before putting your axle back in. Not all 8.75 axles have this but most do.

For stubborn rear axle seals, I have used a long wooden dowel like a closet rod & tapped them out from the far side. Just catch the edge and tap with a hammer.
They have a tension spring around the inner lip, so before installing the new seals, smear some axle grease in the grove around the spring. It can help prevent that spring from popping loose when tapping the new seal in.

i did order the manual from ebay
odd thing is new seals seemed to big for axle tube (could be wrong)
the rear is out on jack stands so a little hard to hold it and slide hammer
was thinking of driving it threw the other side ...
will post what works

The axle tube necks down, so driving them in towards the center would not work well.

finally got around to working on it again
had so much baked on oil that the tube looked smaller
scraped out the sludge and my helper could slide hammer them out
55year old oil yuck
hope the diff is good (have 2 parts trucks if they are any good)
so have the diff on jack stands had to bear hug it while he slapped them out
would have been much easier in the truck
i did get the book will read up on the axle bearing

figured i was this deep into it
pulled the bearing out of the carrier and they are shot
oh well better now then wasting time later

just looked boy am i slow started taking rear apart in may
so all bearings replaced ,painted
all new spring bushings rear frame painted to the cab
hopefully will be able to bolt it in this week an make it roll
seems like the only missing part is the rear brake hose
next move is to gut the cab ,everything but windshield ,front floors
new body mounts ,then ready for clutch /head and reassembly ....

You might as well pull the windshield, too. If the glass is good, cut the weatherstrip open with a utility knife. In this manner, you reduce the risk of cracking the glass removing it. If it is the original weatherstrip, it needs replacement. It is "only" a few dollars more.....

yea good point ...
same as the rear diff,was going to not paint anything just mechanical rebuild,now this far in whats another gasket
ill take some picks ,it just hard to get them posted here
i know i have to resize them or something .wish there was an easier way
when i started on the front my buddy talked me in to painting now the front rails/everything painted and the rear
its only the middle thats left

Yes, I agree, posting photos on the forum is a pain. I believe 240KB is the maximum file size,which is not much for the quality of images today's devices can create. The forum software is still being offered and updated, so I'm not sure what the issue is. Of course, allowing large file size photos would quickly increase the storage requirements on the server(s). Storage capacity gets expensive.
So, yes, while it is a pain to upload photos, the forum is a great reference tool and we certainly can't complain about the price.
