On my '63 both sets of bolts were loose as in not attached to the firewall. Do they come this way. Sure makes it tuff to replace the units as you have to have a 5th hand to hold the back side.

I learned on this site (wish I could remember to give credit) about the trick of welding a big piece of wire across two of the bolts. Poke the two welded together bolts through and they cant move.

Its a pain , But one person can install the brake and clutch master. I've done it many times by myself over the last 45 years. A second set of hands certainly do help though. I keep vise grips around and tape and box end wrenches for help.

Take a piece of 1/8 thick 1 inch wide strap steel, cut the holes for two of the bolts vertically, weld the bolts to the straps. No 3rd hand needed.

Some passenger cars were equipped with this bracket to stiffen the support for the master cylinder. Tacking the bolt heads to one of these makes the job a snap.

The other option is to press some lugs into the master cylinder itself, a feature sometimes found in stock MOPAR master cylinders of that period. I believe they used the nuts with spun-on washers from the inside so that one could simply put the nut into a long socket on a long extension into a speed bar or powered ratchet. If I recall correctly, a long socket on a swivel also helped, but that was 40 years ago.
