W300 wheels

Post by ecfuerst »

I have a set of 6 lug split rim, bud style wheels. Bolt pattern is 6x7.25". They are 16' tall. Does anyone know where I can get some 1 piece steel wheels with less back spacing. I would hate to have to change shafts. If it comes to that I would just swap the whole axle for better gears and brakes. I would prefer to do just a rim swap.

Is anyone inerested in an axle set? 4.88's BRAND NEW ZERO miles drum brakes

if is a W300 the front is also a 70. are you wanting to switch to single rear wheel? I think there was single rear wheel 16s for those. I know there was 17.5s and 19.5s (both one piece) as well. Stockton wheel will make them in any offset you want. I have heard of better rim makers out here also. but if you have some made check out the reputation first.

oh yeah "better gears" is a matter of opinion ;/) I love 4.88s. towing is never an issue. mileage is the same as 4.11s just lower top speed

Don't get me wrong. The 4.88's are cool!

I am torn. I love the old tough original but this will be a daily driver for me. Long term, I'll probaably get an early 90's diesel and do a whole swap. That way I would have disc brakes and easier to find parts.
I am looking to stay in the 16" wheel for tire selection

I think there is a disk brake conversion being made by uglytruckling.com. and also someone is making a conversion for Fords with big knuckle front ends that would probably work. one way to go fast would be 11.00 x 16 tires. Michelin makes various tread designs. they are 39 inches tall and will increase top speed big time over the 7.50 x 16s and about 10 mph over 9.00 x 16s

Hey guys,
quick one, 67 w300 should the 16" split wheels be 6 hole or 3 hole.

Here is my idea. Stockton uses a 1/2" piece of plate steel as the center section and they are not even DOT approved! I am thinking of buying 16.5" rims on the cheap and cuutting out the centers. I can have the centers machined by a buddy. After I weld them in I'll balance the wheels before mounting my hummer tires. Am I Crazy?

3 hole. the old 6 hole rims are 40s and 50s stuff. only bad thing about 16.5s is the bead is too small and they come off the rim easy when pressure is low. bad for offroad and safety.
