rear brake problem

This is driving me nuts. I replaced the rear shoes on the left hand side rear. When I went to put on the rear wheel the tire would not turn. The hub turns fine until I tighten down the lug nuts then no movement at all. I have worked on this for over 6 hours trying to figure this out. I have a manual that shows how the shoes and other components go in. I have even removed the other rear hub, everything is the same. This is on my 65 d-100 short bed. any suggestions.....

Are the new brake shoes the same as the old ones?

There's auto adjusters on those that tighten when you back up and hit the brakes. When that happened with the thinner pads it was adjusted, maybe now that the thicker pads are on it's too tight. There should be a way to manually adjust them. The only other thing I can think of is that the springs weren't put on correctly and it's binding up when you tighten it down or something.

I found out the problem. The set of shoes that were sold to me were for the front breaks. The box stated rear shoes but someone must have put them in the wrong box. The front shoes go on the rear and look fine that is why I thought it was some other related problem. After very carefull inspection you could tell that the front shoes were different than the other rear shoes. They must have been a little wider and when the wheel was tightened down the hub would bind on the shoes. I thought the hub was out of round or the Axle was bent somehow. I was almost ready to have the vehicle towed into a brake shop. that would of cost a few hundred dollars. Thanks for the very quick replies

You're right! the rears are like a 1/2" narrower.... we at least you have front pads now.
