Removing front drums from 65 W300
All the wheel cylinders leak on my 65 Fargo PowerWagon W300. The front is a Dana 70, the rear is a Dana 80. Do I need to disassemble the hub to pull the drums on the front? Also, there are 2 bolts with springs going into the back of my backing plate, do I loosen them off to remove the drum? I'm a bit confused here, so any walk through or anything would be nice, thanks.

Re: Removing front drums from 65 W300
Today I pulled off a wheel and drum to have a look. Every thing was dry. I looked behind the rubber on wheel cylinder, and discovered about half a teaspoon of fluid on each end.
Should it be perfectly dry or is this normal? I'm gonna guess that it's not normal.

It should be dry behind the rubber. You will either have to replace them, or rebuild them. Always replace/rebuild both sides at the same time. I had to buy rebuild kits and hone out both sides for about 5 hours each to clear the pitting, since there was only 1 wheel cylinder of my type, floating around America.

Any chance you might have any extra W300 brake drums around , working on a 63 W300 4x4 1 ton and I desperately need brake drums
Thanks Brad

Check with Bud Thorp [aka PowerWagon54]. He might have some for you.
There are a few Sweptline guys in the Buffalo area.... Maybe we'll run into each other sometime.

Thanks so much , I have been in contact with PW 54 and he has helped me out with one rear drum so far and looking for further info for me .
I'm actually looking into this project for my Aunt who is from London Ontario and is trying to get my uncles truck back on the road for my cousin who intends to drive it to BC . The urgent part is that it is my uncles health is failing and we are trying to get it roadworthy and back to it's original glory prior to the inevitable.
I'm a W300 newbie and have a new respect for a restored Vintage Dodge as the parts are very tough to find , especially compared to my 67 Camaro.
With respect
Brad

those spinrg loaded botls are you upper adjsuters. adjusting the fronts on your truck is a very precise process. read the manual. its not like the rear where you have servo type drum brakes and close is good enough.. the front are non servo and the adjustment is critical for excellent stopping. there are 4 adjusters per wheel in the front.
