I get a grinding sensation when I turn right

Post by sweptliner »

This problem just cropped up out of no where. For some reason whenever I turn right and only when I turn right I hear a grinding sound and I can feel something grabbing. This is at any angle going right. Any ideas? I know the wheel isn't rubbing anything I just checked.

Is your steering colum in a bind? Is the noise at your feet?

the noise seems to be coming from outside near the left front tire.

2x4. I dont know if it is the bearings because I just packed them. I know the tie rod isnt hitting the wheel because the rim isnt showing any damage. Could one of my break pads be out of adjustment?

Did it make the noise before you repacked the bearings?

Your brake shoes should not be causing any problem when you are turning for they move with your spindle,if they were your bearings would have movement, ie your hub/drum moving seperate from the spindle which isn't a good thing, i would slide under the truck and have a strong person get in and turn your wheels from lock to lock and keep an open mind for anything.

Also, since you just re packed the bearings before the problem occured, I'd start by jacking the truck up and check for excess play in the wheel bearings, possibly the adjuster nut is too loose. Then, while jacked up, you can try to spin the wheel and listen for any minor noises.
