Hi all.

Just snapped the Intermediate Prop Shaft on my 1969 W100. Parts book says number 2952-143 for 69-71 W100-W200. If anyone know a number that crosses, that could be helpful. NP435, 383.

Thanks!

BTW, I posted a "wanted ad" also. Sorry for cross posting...

My suggestion is to not mess around and go to a good driveline shop and have them make up the entire shaft, including both yokes, with the more recent Spicer 1410 series with the U-bolts over the U-joint caps. Lucky you, but your input shafts to the NP435 and the NP205 transfer case are both 30 spline. 68 and earlier were 10-spline and are much more expensive yokes. Mine are 10-spline so I don't have the numbers. All you'll need is the center-to-center distance between the U-joint caps. If you are going to put significant power to it, I'd go with the 1410 series U-joints and yokes.

Great suggestions. I talked to a drive shaft shop over the phone and they wanted $220 just to replace the 1.75" tube section. I found this NOS for $250 shipped. The guy specializes in NOS Mopar, but only has limited truck parts. I'll report back with a phone number once everything goes back together.

Nice score and a steal!
That is a common failure in the W drivelines, esp 69-71. Mine did that with less than 100,000 miles on it, in 1978, when the truck was only 8 yrs old! I welded it back together with a piece of exhaust pipe, with eyeball alignment. Couldn't afford the driveline shops back then. Ran it daily for more than 10 yrs after that. :dance

I got close to doing the same thing, and still might. But this seemed a no-brainier given the new u-joints, etc.

Well, this is kinda weird. The Intermediate Prop Shaft I bought has the same part number the book calls for written on it and tagged, 2952143 (Seller would not guarantee the number. Said that was the way he bought it). They both have same number stamped into the tube the book calls for, 2909456 - but - the "new" one has a 3" diameter tube vs 2.5" diameter tube on the "old" one. Also, the "new" part weighs 5 lbs 11.5 oz vs 4 lbs 14.5 oz for the old part (tube section only), and is way beefier. U-joints are the same size. The sliding end, I don't know about, as the truck is at my friend's shop, but I'm guessing it is a likewise beefier part.

Well, it all went back together just fine. I guess I got an updated OEM shaft. I'll ask the admin if I should add the vendor's contact info to the thread.
