Identifying carb?

Post by manderson17 »

Is there a way to i.d. My carb besides the tag on air horn? My tag is missing and I am wanting to get a replacement for it. It's 383 manual 2bbl w200 crewcab. Originally from Georgia. Any help or suggestions on which replacement to get for it. Want to stay with 2bbl for now. Thanks

If it says Carter it is a BBD.
Could also have a Stromberg.

Factory 2bbl carbs are supposedly 2 sizes, one size for small block, a different size for big blocks.

My 69 with a 318 had a 383 spec 2bbl when I bought the truck. BIG spacer/gasket, long studs, had to be pried off with a small crowbar. Ran great until it cracked... the smallblock version it runs now works fine. Except I had to drive it cross country with no kickdown linkage. Shifted smooth as glass anyway. Auto vs manual have different throttle arms/add on bits. Mine is a 1974 manual trans spec.

I will be switching to an electric choke Autolite in the near future. Easier to get parts for, just needs an adapter plate.
If I didn't build it, it ain't mine.

And a stock replacement is only any parts store away. Mine was through Autozone.

You can also buy brand new replicas, made in China, buyer beware.
