Oil Pan Gasket Change?

Post by jimharold »

Hey All,

From what I read in a Chilton book we have to lift the engine just to swap an oil pan gasket? Please tell me it can be done without all that work. It shows putting wood blocks between the block and mounts to get the clearance needed for pan removal. I hope someone has a better idea.

I have the new 302 heads ready to go on but want to stop all the oil leaks first. Oh by the way it's a 68' D100 with 318 and auto trans.

Thanks for the help,
Jimharold.

Lifting the motor isn't really that hard :Thumbsup

Sounds more labor intensive than it really is. Just don't forget to remove the distributor cap first if its really close to the firewall. Oh and now is a good time to replace motor mounts if you need them haha

Why not just jack one side of the truck up? You wont need to remove the distributor, hoses, etc..

Got the pan out and changed gasket without lifting the engine. Tight fit but made it. Wish me luck that I got a good seal putting it back in.
