Best (cheap) Poly Headers update?

Good morning all.

It has been a while since I have been here and getting excited about finally pulling my "Old Luh" out of the garage after a very long hibernation. First thing is to get her to a good shop locally to get the head gadgets done. While the heads are off, has anything changed on the header front for Poly 318's? The only options I can find are TTI and DTA, both of which are cost prohibitive at this time. What other options, that work, have you folks heard of? What I am considering is using 392 hemi headers cut and welded to a custom plate (my son has access to a CNC at work) or using one of those custom "weld-your-own" kits. As I will not be running over 5000RPM I think I would like shorty type headers and not the full race ones.

There has to be an easy fix by now that you guys have come up with. Any ideas before she goes off to the shop?

Tks

Hey again, I was just at a local car event and one of the attendees suggested getting one of the Manzo Headers off ebay for a $150 to $199 and just drilling out their flanges to fit the bolt pattern of the Poly..... any ideas? Will that work?

I've got Hedman Headers on my truck. They have held up well over the years.

Interesting, I just spoke at length with a very nice guy down there and he said that they do not have a application for a wide block 318. They did have headers for 57-58 318 Plymouth's back in the dark ages and he said he would go look for what he could find in their museum and warehouse but nothing off the shelf. How old are yours?

Is your engine an A [Poly] or LA [wedge] ?

DTA & TTI are the only two I know of. I have a set of DTA headers on
one of my Polys.

Thanks all.

Mine is the 318A, the old fat heavy one.

The DTA's look perfect but wow, almost a grand in ceramic plus shipping. I have even thought of trying to find some stock rear dump manifolds off a 57 or 58 Fury and have not found any yet.

I am really keen on hearing anyone having tried the shorty Hemi headers.

If you're handy with a welder perhaps you could make some?

Thanks, I have thought about that as well. I think I can get universal kits online for about $80. The good news is that my son is one heck of a welder but he is so busy that I don't want to impose if I don't have to.

As you know all the header vender's can show you with Their Data Charts - They offer A Power Enhancement above 3,500 RPM's to
Red Line. To acquire a possible max of 10% more of a power level --- all you need to do is purchase another Cam Shaft that is
spec'd to operate at those RPM's - a Intake Manifold that has the 4 bbl pattern and of course ... the 4 bbl Carburetor.

When all of the above is purchased --- then all you will need to do is have some place attach a Exhaust System from the headers
to behind The Rear Wheels.

Good Luck with your search.

UPDATE: I bought a set of the shorty Hemi 331-354-392 headers off ebay.

Excellent Headers, thick flanges and real nice welding....

They will NOT WORK....

They are so far off in width that even if you cut them apart you can't push the shorty headers together far enough.
