so.. the seal on the end of the long extension housing on my 727 transmission is cracked in a couple places so I figured I'd replace it while the transmission is out..
I don't have the special seal removal tool but i found an excerpt in the 727 Handbook that makes it look easy with a screwdriver or chisel,
(see here: http://tinyurl.com/kyqus2n)

but it's not !!
the steel flange is all bent now from hammering and prying but it hasn't budged.
any tips on getting this thing off ?? and then again to get it back in ?

also, does anyone have the part number so I can be sure I'm getting the right thing ?

it's for a 1969 D100

thanks

Usually they come right out but snce your having trouble lets see if we can help. Take a flat head screwdriver and start tapping it around the edge of the SEAL. This will break loose after going around it (as much as you can) then you can use a pair of pliers to pull it out. A side note....seal pullers aren't that pricey at the local auto parts store.

thanks, but I don't think a regular seal puller would help in this situation..
the special Chrysler tool is shaped like a flat tuning fork wedge and gets behind the steel flange of the seal

now that i look at the seals more carefully i guess the damaged part is mostly just the built in dust boot, the part that seals on the shaft is probably OK

maybe i'll just leave it
