motorhome 440
I have a 440 out of a '77 dodge motorhome. I am going to do a mild build on it and it will be in a daily driver. I know these were 'low compression' engines. I am sure this subject has been addressed here before, but I don't have the energy to go back and search for the answer to my question. What exactly lowers the compression in these engines? Shorter rods? Crank? Deck height? From everything I have read the pistons don't factor into the equation. I thought all the RB engines had the same deck height and it was a possibility that they used six pac rods. I will be using the 452 heads. Thanks.

Re: motorhome 440
Pistons and cyl head chamber size. One if not both.

Like Kim said, pistons. You can get on summit and otherp laces too I'm sure and see all the different pin heights for different compression ratios.

Re: motorhome 440
I have a 77 motor home 440 in the 67 D100 I bought. From my understanding the lower compression come from dished pistons.

I have my '77 440 for my D100 apart to rebuild before I install it.
The pistons aren't dished, the pin to piston top heights change.

Good to know I'm hoping to pull mine apart next year.DavidWymore wrote:I have my '77 440 for my D100 apart to rebuild before I install it.

Thanks for the info! I guess pistons are going onto the parts list.
