Highway friendly gears

Post by DoubleS »

Hey guys question, would anyone have a good recomendation and or personal experience for gear ratio for a 68 D-200, all stock rearend, to make it a little more highway friendly for cruising speeds ?? I dont intend to pull a boat or camper with this truck just want to drive it every day to work as cheap as possiable.

The 3.54 gear is nice in the DANA 60 axles. :Thumbsup

What John said on ratio and tire size. Exactly what I had on my 68 D200. Mike :Thumbsup

I run 3.55 in my W200 with 33" tall tires and a 3spd 727. On the highway the gears are great, in town I wish I had 3.70's or lower.
Still I think its a good mix. I certainly wouldn't want 3.23s or 3.0's with the tall tires.

My truck is a pavement pounder also, it rarely sees off road.

As I recall I turn about 2500 rpms at 65mph.

If youve got a manual transmission, you will REALLY want 3.23 or 3.54 gears. Getting started with something like 2.76's is tough.

I swapped out the D60 with 4.10's to a D70 with 3.54's and love it. running 265/85/16 tires.
