So i have a 60 stakebed with the poly and 3 speed manual tranny and have never been real happy with the super long throw. I came across automatic on ebay it appears to have come out of a 61 car. Would this work on my poly? I know i would need a crossmember and the shifterfor in tbe cab. Will my bellhousing work? And i keep seeing stuff about a kickdown linkage that hooks to the carb.whats up with that?i have a edlebrock carb on it if that makes a difference.i am pretty sure my drive liine would tto be shortened too. I just see this as a way out of the long throw manual. Any other suggestions? I have looked and man the auto tranny is hard to find local or 3000 miles away. Thanks guys

According to what I have read on the Yahoo Poly group it should bolt right up but I would verify that. If you don't get a firm answer here try posting up there. http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/318poly/ or try a search there. I think all you have to worry about is that the 318 poly changed in 1962 so anything after that is not compatible with the early Poly like you have.
Your kick-down will hook up to the carb and basically when you hammer the gas it kicks the trans down a gear to help you pass easier. There is a rod or cable that hooks up to the carb and the transmission kick-down rod/lever/shaft. I if you find the one from the transmission you are getting it should work but you may have to make some modifications and adjustments to get it working 100%

Or just delete it, my LA318/727 won't shift with the rod hooked up, shifts fine without it unless I'm pulling the horse trailer in the Rockies or similar.
