Can anyone give me a reason "besides a stuck float" why I have
fuel pouring out of the secondary vent tube while the engine is
running?

As some of you might recall from my post I installed this carb and
intake a couple of weeks ago, I finally drove the truck Saturday after
installing the new wheels, tires, and bumper. Sunday morning I
took it to breakfast and a short drive afterwards and then parked
it. Monday after work I wanted to take it to the post office to drop
a package, She ran but you could tell she was loading up so I reved it to
clean it out but would never clean out? after I shut it off I then saw
the pool of fuel on the intake runners, I mopped it up pulled the air
cleaner and cranked to find the fuel pouring out of the vent tube (see arrow)

This doesn't eliminate trash in the fuel however I'll mention it anyways:
New:
Fuel Pump
Fuel Filter
Fuel Lines (rubber and hardlines)
Fuel tank cleaned.

It is a dual feed carb but Not a Dbl pumper!

Float level possibly set too high? My best guess after trash in the system. Good luck! Mike

What is the history on the carb? I'd suspect a sticky needle/seat assembly. Possibly stripped threads in the float bowl where the seat assembly screws in..

The needle/seat is what controls the flow of gas into the bowl, so the problem has to be right there.

The carb is (used) but new to me, I purchased it from the company that I use
on all my carb work here in TX. He has rebuilt 3 other carbs for me and they
all were setup pretty much dead on when installed.

I'm guessing trash in the system too but wanted other input before I tear into
a freshly rebuilt carb!

By no means am I saying he's perfect but I believe he's done everything correctly
based on the truck did drive good for two days prior to this issue. I just hate going
into freshly re-built stuff

I have not had a chance to look into this any further due to freezing temps and
sleet/snow mixture since Monday night and my shop is not heated!

Maybe give the guy a call and tell him what is happening. You can also pinch off the gas line, run the carb out of gas and pull the float bowl and see what you find. I think you can still buy the float bowl gaskets individually for cheap.

That was my intent, however we have had bad weather since Monday
evening and the roads have been iced over every since Tuesday morning
and there has been no answer at his shop!

previously suggested...... and I agree with
that suggestion... weather permitting. ]

That was my intention however the weather got bad (really bad for TX) and I've been
at home since Monday evening, Now suffering from a severe case of (Cabin Fever) I pulled
the rear bowl off the carb and found no debris holding the bowl open but what I did find
is why I'm replying and needing More input for you guys.

At anytime, is there Ever supposed be fuel INSIDE the float?
I saw movement inside the float when I was cleaning the bowl with carb
cleaner, there's a bubble moving around inside, I'm NOT a carb expert but
I do not think they are to have fuel in them! how else are the to FLOAT!

Not correct. The float probably has a pin hole in it. Either replace the float or repair it. Replace is preferred. The float in allowing the bowl to overflow since it is not shutting off the incoming fuel. One reason I thought you should check the float level. If it's set too high it will cause the same thing to happen. Good luck. You Texas guys must be in shock with the weather you're having! Mike

I'm planning on replacing them both! Summit has Brass floats for $9.95 and two different plastic
floats, one at $13.95 and the other at $23.95 not sure as to the difference in the plastic one's.
My first step is to get ahold of the guy who rebuilt it (hoping he's back at his shop/work Monday)
and seeing if he'll take care of it under warranty? It's covered under either a 6 or 12 month warranty

Comments/Concerns on using Brass or Plastic Floats? as both are available for the
Holley 4160 which is a better? any pros/cons I should know about?

As far as the weather, me personally I'm surprised as to how long it stuck around here it's more
likely to snow one day and be 80 degrees the next day!

I did finally get in touch with my guy Monday that rebuilt the carb and
yes it was already out of warranty but he did offer to exchange the float out
for a new one no charge! since this was/is a common issue with the plastic
floats. once it comes in I hope to have her back on the road.

PS Yes Dallas is once again hit with Icy roads however the good
side to that is another full day viewing the Sweptline forum. time well spent
