unexplainable whine...
unexplainable whine...
So one the beast warms up, it is running fine, Drives around real good, until it is decelerating after a hard acceleration.(as when you are moving 5-10 mph and goose it to spin the tires, then let off) The sould is almost like a "whine" and appears to be coming from the motor or most likely the transmission. I am running a 727 automatic. Is there any adjustment that could be out of spec? Don't know much about at transmissions so I am in the dark here....

I was wondering the same thing about my ex:
"why are you doing that!??"
"do you have to drive so fast?!?!?!?!!?"
"what the HELL were you thinking!!!!!"
as far as the truck making the noise, have you checked the fluid level in the tranny??

High pitch, or low pitch, and only on decceleration? and if I read right, deccelleration after heavy acceleration?

Re: unexplainable whine...
Its not a sqeek, but not quite a growl. you did read correct decelleration after heavy acceleration.MountainMoparRobin wrote:High pitch, or low pitch, and only on decceleration? and if I read right, deccelleration after heavy acceleration?![]()

How many belts do you have? 1 or 2, as in fan belts, power steering, A/C?.

Carrier bearings in the rear end? I had a noise, sort of a whine on deceleration in my 66. Changed out the pumpkin and it went away. Just a thought. Good luck. Mike

I will have to check that out next time I am at the shop. Hopefully there will not be snow on the ground
. The carrier bearings are new, maybe the transfer case has something to do with it?

I would also look into the rear end. Sounds like a more common issue.

Re: unexplainable whine...
If you drive your truck at say 40mph and manually downshift the transmission from 3rd into 2nd, does it make the same whine? Could be the planetary gears in your tranny, and that's pretty common.

Have not had him out on the highway yet, but I have heard that as a problem from another website.66Fargocrewcab wrote:If you drive your truck at say 40mph and manually downshift the transmission from 3rd into 2nd, does it make the same whine?
