As the title says...
Found this out while doing my rear brakes tonight. I had everything apart and went to install the shoes when I realized the emergency brake bracket did not fit in the required spot. On the old trailing shoe, there is a square hole at the top which is for the emergency brake bracket. The new shoes have a round hole, so it won't fit. Not only that but the new shoes were smaller than the old ones. Went to the parts store and they said if nothing fit, than most likely someone swapped out the rear end.
Now I gotta figure out which rear end I got! Where do I look for an ID tag, and will it tell me what make/model it came from so I can get the proper shoes for it?
PO swapped out my rear end!

Yep...
8-1/4 rear end without sure-grip. Diff. has ten bolts, shoulda been my first clue.
Now I gotta find the years and models these were available and which fit my shoes. They are 10x2-/12 shoes, so far they fit an 85 Dodge D150.

Re: PO swapped out my rear end!
An 85 truck would have a 5x5.5 bolt circle so if it still has a 5 on 4.5 inch bolt circle you know it is earlier. Dodge used the 8 3/4 axle through 74 in the trucks so it is probably after 74. My 77 frame donor truck had a 8 3/8 which is a 8 1/4 with a larger ring gear. I just did a little digging and it appears all the truck versions of the 8 1/4 were 8 3/8 axles. So if yours is really a 8 1/4 it wouldn't have been from a truck application. If it is an 8 3/8 it would be from 75-84 if it has a 5 on 4.5 bolt pattern.1965D100 wrote:Yep...

Yep...
83 D150 looks to be the perfect match! Held up the shoe to the picture on my TV, and everything lines up, even the pad dimensions.
The silver lining on this is the fact that I can now find rear drums a lot cheaper!
